Melody first, sound later; usually.

yeah, normally melody first, then patch. But sometimes you find/make a really cool sound that you would like to make a song around.

melodie first.. then the sound.
caus you build everything around the melodie to make it fit.... but the sound you might have to totally change caus it doesn't fit.

offcourse there might be some modifications to the melodie but not much usually.

sometimes i just sit down and play around with some synth to make a good sound.... and now i use 2 of my latest synth's in the track i'm working on now

when i do that i usually just take a midi of some track and starts to play around, and then i try it out on different track's too see what it fit's nice with...

Well for me it's the other way round. I first start with a nice synth sound. I play along with it, until I get some inspiration as on how to use it. Then the melody comes up quite easily, or most of the times the chord schemes.

Agreed. A certain sound can add character to a lead or melody that sparks the inspiration.. but I guess everyone has their own way.. Do what works for you.

i usually make a rough version of the melody, then work on a general sound that i want the synth to sound like, see if it fits... then i proceed on to fine tuning the melody, make it sound nicer.. then i finally fine tune the synth...
