Loveparade in UK called off 15 July, 2001



"The Loveparade that was supposed to hold thousands of music lovers in Newcastle the next weekend has been cancelled.

Many thousands of party people that was supposed to visit Newcastle (UK) next weekend for the Loveparade will stay at home. The reason is that the event has been called off.

The Newcastle City Council failed to meet the conditions of the Entertainment Licence for Love Parade 2001 to stage a safe event. The event-organizer, UK Radio1, had set a deadline at 18 PM yesterday (Saturday) for the council.

Radio 1 controller, Andy Parfitt, said:

"Radio 1 have been working on this event for more than six months and have met or exceeded all the requirements placed on us to stage an exciting and safe event".
