Stutter/chopping etc

Yeah I use fruity mostly and when I want to chop up a sample to stutter it gets messy with the decay of the previous midi message/slice, I think some slicers or samples have the ability to just play the sample for as long as you make the note. Ive only ever witnessed that with a single sample though, is their a way I can do this all in a plug-in or am I going to have to do some manual slicing

What are you talking about?

Seriously, I'm not following what your question is. Are you after a gating effect where the sample carries on playing, but the volume is dropped in and out (typical trance chord / lead effect). If yes, check out the Skidder and MIDI Gate effects by Destroy FX. If no, clarify your question

i'm not sure, but i think he means that he want's his sample too be as long as the note is.

just like it get's if you use a softsynth
if you have a shirt note, it's short, and if you have a long note it's long

but if you use a sample it doesn't matter how short/long you make the note, it's only the sample that get's played.

but somehow you can do so that the sample is as long as the note.. i have no idea how to do it either.. but i have seen it

it's quite easy to achive. enable the volume-envelope in the sample-window, set all the knobs to zero and pull the sustain knob to it's maximum.

now the sample will be played as long as the current note in the piano-roll.

Am I right in thinking this will only work for samples that have a sustain-loop? You can't do this with one-shot samples, right?

Naw its more like once you use looped samples, and select 'use loop points', they suddenly cut off the second the midi note cuts off.... But if you're using a regular one shot sample, it plays all the way through UNTIL you give it an envelope like the one mentioned (hold full, attack none, sustain full, decay none, release none)... at which point it will play just once through for each midi note triggered, but cut off as quick as the note does too.
