I wanted to comment on this particular issue with the heated 39 hr. marathon that Republican Senators created to "sway" the Dems. away from their filibuster. A few points and open questions:

1. Did they really think it would make a dent? Or was it more or less a media ploy to garner attention?

2. Is this what my elected officials do? Couldn't they have spent this time on the clock a little more productively?

3. Since Bush assumed presidency, 168 of his nominations have been confirmed by the Senate. The 4 who have been blocked are individuals whos backgrounds give ample reason to doubt their ability to be unbiased. Regardless, that's a 168 that have been passed.

4. Contrast this record with what the Repugs did to Clinton nominees in the year 2000 alone. Of the 81 nominees Clinton sent to the Senate, the Repug. leadership only allowed 39 to reach the Senate for a vote! 42 of those nominees were blocked and remained without ever having been voteed on when Clinton's term ended. 38 of those were not even given a hearing by Orrin Hatch's Judiciary Committee. Even Justice Rehnquist, of all Conservative folks, had to chide his fellow conservatives for their irresponsible actions.

5. So again, what the hell were you Conservative media outlets bitching and moaning about again?

dont forget that under clintons first term he still had to deal with a congress that was a republican majority, that might explain something... i guess... but ya i dont see it to be that surprising that when the house of representitives (ie the representitives of the american people) are a majority of some kind, they shall promote a judiciary panel that represents their constituency, in this case republican or right leaning judges.
