I'm not big on the any type of atkins diet cause at some point just about everyone goes back to eating what they used to and the weight comes back. i like to think of losing weight as subtle diet changes that you can stick with permanately.
one example would be using mustard instead of mayo. i tend to count calories instead of carbs when picking out the foods i eat. increase your protien intake. meal replacements such as protein bars and powders are not just for guys who lift. they can make planning out a healthy and easy to follow diet that much easier.
drink lots and lots of water. water is key. drinking a steady amount of water throughout the day will curb your appetite, keep you hydrated (most of us arent), and keep you from getting sick as well.
this plus cardio (30-45 min), at least 3 times a week and you'll lose the weight you want, and not drive yourself crazy and feel empty trying to do it. the more cardio you do, the sooner you'll see the results you want.
good luck with your diet man, if you decide to try something else, give my suggestions a shot and let me know how they work for you.

First of just so you know im not bsing you I worked as a manager for the Vitamin Shoppe for a year and currently finishing my degree in Nutrition.
Ala -
As I stated above it was first used primarilly for people with non insulin dependent Type 2 Diabeties. The supplement proved to work very similarlly to meds like Glucaphoge, & Glucatrol. Ala makes your blood need less of your own Natural Insulin to shuttle Nutriants (Protien, Carbohydrates) to your cells. This was a huge discovery for the body building world. Athletes using Creatine + Carbs would add ala to the equation and get phenomanol results.
I personally just use the product for dieting.
Facts about Ala
(taken from www.vitaminshoppe.com)
1- Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a vitamin-like antioxidant, sometimes referred to as the “universal antioxidant,” because it is soluble in both fat and water.1 ALA is capable of regenerating several other antioxidants back to their active states, including vitamin C,2 vitamin E,3 glutathione,4 and coenzyme Q10.5
2-Alpha lipoic acid has several potential benefits for people with diabetes. It enhances glucose uptake in type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes, inhibits glycosylation (the abnormal attachment of sugar to protein), and has been used to improve diabetic nerve damage and reduce pain associated with that nerve damage.6 Most studies have used intravenous alpha lipoic acid, but oral supplementation has nonetheless proved partially helpful in treating at least one form of diabetic neuropathy, using 800 mg per day.7
3-Preliminary evidence indicates that 150 mg of alpha lipoic acid, taken daily for one month, improves visual function in people with glaucoma.8
4-Alpha lipoic acid has been shown to inhibit the replication of the HIV virus in the test tube. However, it is not known whether supplementing with alpha lipoic acid would benefit HIV-infected people.9
