Well, your soundcard really has nothing to do with the sound quality of your cd-r burning. That depends upon the quality of the cd-r you use, and the cd burner you are using. Also, if you are converting mp3 files to wav, the codec you use has a great deal to do with how they sound afterword. Since mp3s are encoded codecs extrapolate the data because they are compressed, and some do this a great deal better than others.

Good luck with the installation though, that soundcard is great.

then what is the point of a new soundcard...i heard it made your recordings more clear...the highs higher and the lows lower??

It does make a big difference for an analogue source, such as vinyl, tape or radio, but if its pure digital (mp3 or pure digital) it doesn't make a difference, since its all processed by the CPU. Got it?

Whoa......lets clarify this for Phanta here. Ok ANY time you play a song through your computer and then record it, say something coming through the line in or even a tune you've ripped from CD to wav (thats digital extraction and thus perfect) but if you play that tune on your computer AND re-record it for any reason. Even just to record it with some effect going through it or whatever. THATS Going to have a lot to do with your soundcards quality. The less your audio has to be converted into digital (to go onto your computer) and then back to analogue (to be played) the less artifacts there'll be in it. To put it simply the less your song has to go through your soundcard the better.

The best way to go is to record the tune and then use something like Cool Edit Pro to do your editing and effects with cuz it never uses your soundcard to do any of its effects thus keeping the song digital no matter how much you what to play with the tune. And from there you send it over to the cd burner and again it stays digital so there's nothing to worry bout.

It's only getting the song into your computer (recording) thats really going to go through your soundcard. Yes the Live! is pretty good for a consumer card (i have one too) but the less you use analogue the better. Once you have the song in digital try to keep it that way and you'll keep your song sounding great.

Yeah dood you would take advantage of a good sound card when you record stuff from an external sound source ie, hooking your stereo to your computer then using a program such as soundforge or cooledit to record it but burning cds just depends on the burner you have and the system you run
the sound card is just a way that the computer communicates audio to an external source ie your ears, speakers etc you will probably only notice a difference with your new sound card if you record stuff from an external sound source or you have your computer hooked up to a good stereo. cheer cheer

For installing your SB Live x-gamer, make sure your pc is off, put it on it's side and take one of the walls off ( accessible )
place your hands on the outside edges of you pc, ( grounding )
chooose an open slot for your SB live, and by holding the sb live card by it's outside edges slide it into place, and there should also be a few wires you might have to hook up such as your cd-rom or dvd wirel. Close it up, turn your pc on, insert the cd drivers for your sb live, and wait for windows to recognize the new hardware and it will build a database for it....and if a window comes up where it asks
you if you want to: windows to search for the best driver
I think there should be an icon : Have disk
click that and everything is pretty much straight forward
but if you're not getting any sound.....when your pc loads up
on your task bar/start menu on the lower right corner...where your icq should be, there will be a speaker , double click that to make sure you're not muted and all of the sound is turned up

This might not fully correct, but it's what I know from experience

thanks for your help guys...about keeping it digital...i use TRAKTOR to make mixes, would that effect keeping it digital and the quality high?

I cant seem to find a possible available IRQ for my second soundcard how do I go on about it to enable it to work? I need some help here gys please...!

Disable one of the COM ports or the USB from in the bios if you aren't using it to free up some irq's. You can also have the SB live (assuming you have one) not do dos emulation which frees another one up
