Idea Just bought pioneer cdj-1000

I'm excited, just got a cd turntable. Now my question is this :

1) I know your supposed to buy cds and spin them but it gets so damn expensive, right ? So I'm sure your not "supposed" to, but can you rip/burn songs off let's say the HUB, and put them in ur turntable, and still expect a high quality of sound ????

2) I see sales for cd Samples, and Loops and stuff.. What exactly is that used for? Do they have cds with FX on them, if so are they any good?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated in advance.

You can burn CD's and use them but you should check the sound quality of Mp3's before doing so. Personally, I hate the sound of mp3s but thats for another thread and another time. Also, you are supposed to buy you music (note that i have not used quotation marks).

Whats up fanatic!! We met at edgar v in miami if you remember (Jeff). So yeah, I think any mp3s even good quality ones will sound bad on a big club system, but not too bad for messing around I guess. Those sample CDs are for production, not sure if any of it would be usable for a set, but maybe you could get wavelab and make your own intros and stuff to throw in your sets. You coming down for ultra?

gcrasher! What's up man...!! Nice to hear from you. Yeah, I know it's not "right" to burn cds and play them on your decks, but for someone new like myself, I just wanted to know the quality of what I was doing.

I might come down for Ultra and WMC, how about yourself? Isnt' Marco V down there this weekend?

Hehe funny story:
I heard of a cd dj here @ Leuven (Belgium) who got busted spinnin' downloaded cd's at a party last week...

30cds
250$ / cd

U do the maths Money like that can buy you a LOT of vinyl or original CD's.

Anyway, don't know the policy on copying music in ur country

I don't get it, what do the big names have then when they pull out burned cd's. I've seen almost every big name pull out a burned cd and play it. What format is it in? I always thought 192 KBPS at 44 0000 KHZ was cd quality whether it be .mp3 format or directly from a store bought cd.

the big boys have access to the actual .wav file that doesnt compress the lows and highs (which is why mp3's sound bad loud). plus, if you are as good as they are with the software they use, there are ways to liven up the mp3 and make is sound full again, like re-master it in a way.

The big boys don't use MP3s burned to CDs.
More often than not it's a track that they have recieved straight from another DJ/Producer which has the original source recording on it. People are basically throwing their music at them anyways so they don't really need to go with MP3s.

The thing about MP3s is that they can never get to close to source quality as it's compressed sound, i.e. something has been taken away. Hence not good for a big sound system.

Macro V said it with c:/del*mp3

In the UK, if you get busted you can get hit for as much as £1000 per track that's coppied.

Saying that, for PVD Fanatic, I wouldn't be too worried about it if you are learning to spin. It will give you a chance to discover the music you like and how you like playing it. Just as long as when you decide to go to the next level you start using quality recordings with the rights for them, for your own sake if nothing else but also the people you play for. Give them a proper experience in terms of sound quality, people think it wont make a difference but it does.

Your second question. Those CDs are for producers mainly to sample drum loops and stuff. There is however nothing stopping you from getting creative once you have the basics down. But I would leave them alone for a while as you have enough to be getting on with .

Best of luck
Nem
