Well you don't need a new sound card. You need a midi interface. You can however get a sound card that has a midi port on it if you feel you need a new sound card as well.

I wouldn't recommend Cubase to start out with. Maybe reason or fruity would be a better option to let you get the hang of things. Cubase isn't exactly easily set out.

If you want to use your DJX for production though, reason and fruity loops won't accomodate your needs. You will need a midi sequencer like Cubase although I don't know what you want to do with the djx.

I was thinking of using the DJX as a Midi controller, don't really know if I can. It does have Midi outputs on it.

Ummmm..... doesnt fruitloops have a midi input thou?

if i was you i'd stay away from those synths en get a decent one instead, maybe second hand. I believe those djx's dont have very good midi implementation + using a synth to control midi is not practical cause every synth uses it's own control commands (but there are some universal cc's like volume, panning, lpf cutoff. cdj 100 costs a lot.. how bout buying a double cd player so you can mix 2 songs together (dont know your current setup) and start messing around with fl and if you like it order a copy of reason then move up to hardware synths if you like producing. No need to buy wanna-b toys like the djx. grtz

Ha Ha I know!! Got the DJX ages ago when I wanted to learn the keyboard!

But would the cable work?? It worth a try i won't lose much!

The cable will definately work if you have a midi interface on your computer.
you will be able play your softsynths tru midi on your keyboard in your sequencer and with stuff like sonar, cubase, logic, ... you can use the djx as soundmodule with the midi in if it has one (with the loads of kickass sounds its sure worth a try )

Ha Ha I thought you were been serious about kickass sounds for a min !

Nah i only really want it so I can play the notes on a keyboard instead of putting them in with a mouse on the piano role which i find frustraing and useless!

Yes I, having played piano for over 7 years, 'm thinking the same way.. and I can assure you if the djx has midi out you will be able to play and record the notes you play on the keyboard into about every sequencer (fl, reason, cubase,...)

Actually there is another thing you should keep in mind and that is latency.. the time between the note you play is registrated and it is played by your soundcard.. If you have a decent soundcard (and that doesnt have to cost too much -like there is the terratec 24/96, m-audio audiophile, the echo series, ....-) you will have low latency and you can play almost like it was a hardware synth. If you have a SB live you can check the kX drivers, they worked well when I had one, tho some people have had problems with it. If you buy a new one make sure they have ASIO drivers which will give a very low latency.
Also you will need a good cpu, mb, and loads of ddr if you want to run it smooth because the lower you want the latency, the more cpu power that is used. ohh almost forgot.. A midi in and out will also be usefull
