um wouldn't you just burn your mp3s onto a cd and play them instead to save yourself 400 bucks?

yeah seriously. I am a huge fan of the vinyl version, I think it's great. But if you want to make backups of your cds to play, it is a lot easier to just burn a copy.

There has to be a really good reason to get these that I just don't see. Has anybody used these and can comment?

EDIT: After looking at the webpage, 79.99 isn't as bad as I figured they would be, but I still think it's not that useful.

this isnt a cd version like you all are thinking rather it is a version that allows you to manipulate the mp3's via cd rather than via lp's. plus, that box isnt the whole shabang, it is just an addon to use cds rather than lp's.

The reason for the CD adaptor

First off, like the previous poster said this is simply an " adaptor' to allow you to use your CD decks with FS instead of TTs. That is basicly the reason for using the adaptor. Now I know to most people this is sort of a waste (myself included) but you have to look at the other advantages FS brings to the table besides vinyl emulation. First, you have a massave DB of all your music that is crossreferenced and organized however you want. This is a very handy feature which I guess youy could emulate by using normal CDs and bringing a laptop with your music database. The other is the amount of music you can bring. Obviosly this is more of an issue with 12" but it still exists for CDs, instead of bringing binders and binders of CDs (or whatever cdjs cart there cds in) you have it all on a laptop that will play the song with the touch of a button.
In my mind these features come at an outragious price if you are not using vinyl, however if I had CD decks and really liked spining with them maybe i would spring for the CD adaptor.
Other people might bring up the fact that if you already have FS you can just burn the "timecode" (the sound on the 12" FS records) to a CD and be done with it. I am pretty sure that the main problem here is that the scratchamp is expecting phono level input. I hear that some cd decks can do that in which case you are set, otherwise the adaptor probably saves a lot of hassle (ie, trying to emulate the timecode before the RIAA curve correction in the preamp).
