i'm not familiar with these types of programs, but i would HIGHLY recommend you download norton antivirus and install that on your system... too easy to get infected files these days... spend the $50 and save yourself the headache.

LOL, you know those are bullshit. They're just popup advertisements, they mean nothing at all.

I highly doubt you have a virus or that anyone can actually see your files, but Norton A/V will take care of that if you do. For now, I'd suggest you just tell Ad-Aware to remove everything it finds.

A "browser hijack attempt" might be a BHO (Browser Helper Object) - they're these things like the Google toolbar, for example, that disguise themselves as "addons" to your browser and track where you go and give you annoying popups and stuff. These aren't viruses though, just spyware, so if Ad-Aware is offering to get rid of them, say yes.

you can go into the options for internet explorer and delete all of your cookies, cached files, and history... reboot the system, run ad-aware, and see what if finds then.

Yes, it's almost certainly safe to wipe them.

Also consider getting Spybot Search & Destroy, as it finds things that Ad-Aware does not (And vise versa).

I run Spybot - Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware 6.0 Professional all the time. Ad-Aware 6.0 Professional comes with a blocking program (Ad-watch) that stops any known spyware from getting onto your machine.

Spybot has something simaliar, although it's labelled as 'Immunization' inside spybot. I generally find Spybot to be the superior of the two, but they both have their uses.

Yeah, Spybot has the same type of thing but I found that the Ad-Aware one is more accurate in stopping everything. You should use both the programs though because 1 will pick up what the other missed.

ad-aware and spybot are both good, but you have to be careful with spybot i guess. my brother who has a computer support buisness informed me that spybot can delete some windows components if you arent careful.

i've got all these porno dialers that adaware or norton can get rid of (in fact my norton has completely stopped working), and they keep coming back when i reboot my computer
