mp3 cd player

i bought a sony cd walkman that plays mp3 cds, on the lcd screen it doesn't display the full filename e.g. "Micheal Woods - Heaven Sen" which isn't even a long filename (michael woods - heaven sent.mp3 is full filename)

is it true that all mp3 cd players only show this length?
i asked the guy in one shop, he said yes because he wanted to sell me the sony one
in another shop they wouldn't take any cd players out of the packaging and they said "i think that one shows filenames"

so i'm asking anyone thats been hands on with a few (especially non-sony) mp3 cd players, is this true?

with the sony one i bought i hooked it up to my stereo through the earphone jack to RCA and the volume level on the stereo is poor
a more expensive model (sony again) has a lineout socket (another minijack socket) would this perhaps have a better volume on the stereo system?

i ask because shop assistants are stupid/liars and catalogues aren't detailed or consistent enough

thanks

I have a Sony D-CJ501 and the screen scrolls if the filename is longer than what fits the screen.

this screen also scrolls, but when it reaches a certain number of characters the name just ends and it starts scrolling from the start again

this model does not support id3, so it just shows the filename (which is what i want, i have a lot of mislabled id3s)
it has no remote, and 32 still isn't enough

cd filenames are limited to over 50 chars, so i named a lot of my files thinking i had that freedom, but now this player shows less than 30 chars, which means i wont see the dj name in a LOT of recordings i've made

The ISO limit on character length for a cd filename is 32 chars I believe.

If you can't see all the filename rename them and remove spaces and extra chars then you will see more.

But they will always stop at 32 chars I believe because that is the spec. My Alpine cd player in my car only shows 32 chars when it scrolls ID3 tags or filenames.

I have a Rio Volt mp3-cd player and I notice the volume doesn't go that high either...even on headphones as well, I turn it up to full volume and it sounds like what mid-volume on other cd players.

yes, i noticed in the shop it wasn't very loud on the headphones provided, my personal cassette player sounds louder
he said its because mp3s have lower quality, i'm not so sure
i peak normalized these files to 0dB before burning so they should be loud, i dont see why quality should affect loudness, it should just sound less clear at the same volume

i guess i used joilet support for burning

also, renaming files means i have to reburn them, which would be about 40-50 cds

ok, today i tried out another cd player, different brand
it has a larger lcd display, show 3 more chars and importantly it plays through perfectly to my stereo
i was happy with it until i found it doesn't resume playback and i cant FF or RW within a track

does anyone know a review site for this sort of thing, i dont want to go back and forth buying every one available and returning it if it doesn't do the job properly

not being able to resume, FF or RW is a pretty big feature to ignore

cnet.com usually has good reviews on electronics.

or you can just google "*model* review" and it should come up with results.
