Isn't really an Industry standard as such. It all boils down to personal choice, but Cubase and Logic seem to be the more popular.

Just as with programming a computer, the software you use doesn't matter.. it's what you do with the program. You can get a pro sound out of any program.. Logic, ACID, FruityLoops, Reason.. which ever you are most comfortable with is what you should use.

If you can't make a good track in reason , than using something abit higher end like logic or cubase won't fix that. I say, when you can make a pro sounding track in reason than it makes sense to switch to something more professional like logic or cubase because they have better sound quality, more features, and vst compatibility. I've heard some killer tracks done in reason. Mind you, the only shitty thing about reason is lack of vst support, but when rewiring to cubase, all that is quickly solved. Problem with making trance music is not the creativity part, it only takes a split second to come up with a killer melody, the bitch is making that melody work in a mix with all the rest.

As someone else mentioned, its all personal preference. Download some trials and see what you are most comfortable with.

Use any MIDI composition program of choice (Cakewalk, Cubase, etc.) and use it to run a bunch of borrowed/rented hardware synths. Record the results as .wav tracks.

How? Define "power".

I'm going to have to disagree. The sound quality is only as good as you make it, nevermind the program.

Granted. Although I've never needed plugins for Reason anyway.

That's a matter of opinion, isn't it?

You're not counting all the prices of the plugins you're going to need.

Why even bother posting then?

Any software is only as good as you make it. It's your skills that matter, not the program/machine you use.
