That's it ...

I'm taking apart either the AC unit or the fridge and build myself one of those biatches and hooking it up to the transformer on the street lol

Athlon is made by AMD, and Pentiums are made by Intel. Intel has a fairly large hold on the computer market, and consequently are able to charge a bit more for their chips. Oh and they have exclusive deals with most computer manufacturers.

The Athlon XP is actually one of the most efficient chips out on the market right now if you're looking at clockspeed:MIPS ratios. In a general sense, Intel's chips have gotten progressively less efficient with the aforementioned ratio, while AMD's chips have gotten progressively better.

However, providing you have fast enough RAM, the Pentium 4 series of chips will provide faster bus transfers because of the Hyperthreading Technology. That is, until you start looking at the Athlon 64.

Hmm, well I suppose I could keep going on and on and on, but I don't suppose many people would truly care. To finalize: most people building their own systems go with AMD, and most people ordering their systems go with Intel.

Bad idea, unless your fridge is thermoelectrically cooled. And even then, if you don't have equipment to measure the power draw of the TEC, you might get stuck with, say, an 80-watt TEC on your modern CPU which might end up

a) Increasing the rate at which the chip heats up

or

b) Doing absolutely nothing in terms of cooling.

Oh and if you have the TEC upside down (or with reversed polarity), you'll cook the chip even faster. Oh yeah and most need about 150 lbs of force to achieve the best cooling potential.

If your fridge is cooled with an evaporative-cooling system then you're most likely gonna need to custom-build a block for your chip, which is probably more trouble than it's worth, particularly if you do it wrong. Same thing with the air conditioner.

My advice: try either a TEC setup or a custom-made evaporative cooling system, both from companies that specialise in this kind of thing. The TEC will be a bit cheaper, while the evaporative cooler will make for better results.

AMD gets screwed again. Intel released a mod version of their P4 just to beat the clock speed of the AMD 64, but the big boner was that Bill Gates and Company decided not to release their Windows 2004 until Spring of 2004! HAHAHHAHAHAHA! That did real wonders to AMD's Christmas sales! Intel's got an insider track at Microsoft, and no doubt will release a chip to smoke the hell out of AMD once agains just as soon as the 2004 platform is ready to release. BTW, I got a 3.2 at Christmas for one of my kids and it smokes!

The use of clock speeds as an accurate measurement of CPU computational speeds was discarded a few years ago (around the time AMD started producing chips more efficient than the old standards, and Intel's efficiency in terms of clockspeed:computational power went down).
