I surgest carrying a can of compressed air, then you just blow it off, works wonders on the faders and crossfader, I use it alot to blow any dust off of any part of my mixer or decks, I can't see it doing anything bad to anything since its just air.

EDIT: oh yea about the valve mixer, I think that it means it like an old skool amp, it doesn't use transistors, it uses these big valves, also not sure if valves sound better, if you compare the best transistor with the best valve, I dunno for sure, so don't quote me on that.

Actually it's not air, it's some other kind of compressed gas with a long name, and sometimes when you hold the can the wrong way (upsidedown or somethin) or you don't shake the can before using it, you'll get a stream of the actual compressed liquid coming out of the nozzle instead of air! It evaporates quickly though, and as to whether it can be harmful to anything (paints, electronics, skin?) I haven't a clue. Anyone know if it's harmful? I know you shouldn't breathe it in.

Good to hear that, I don't have any at the moment so I can't say what the chemicals are, but when I get some more I will post, as for the liquid thing you said, I've had that before, it goes away really fast, I just thought it was that when I sprayed it for to long, it just builds up cos it doesn't have time to evaporate, I dunno, but yea it can't be just air cos they say don't inhale, so there must be somethign else, oh well.

I think because of the decompression it becomes very cold, that might be harmful.

before every record i spin , if i see any dust or anything on it at all, i just wipe over it with a swiffer sheet. they last freakin forever.

as for crap on the needle, i'll use my ortofon needle brush if i notice anything, or if i'm in a hurry, i'll just use my finger.

i used to use compressed air but it was only good for cleaning my mixer. didn't do much for dust.

Not sure if this is true or not, but isn't using your finger to clean the stylus bad for it? I've never tried doing it...just used my ortofon brush. Remarkably, I still have yet to replace one of my stylii...and this was after some heavy use too.

Difluoroethane. And it can cause frostbite if the liquid contacts skin. It's really freakin' cold due to the compression. It's also disgustingly flammable, but thats not a real worry.

Dust & cat hair(3 cats) are a constant battle for me, not just my vinyl, but the equipment as well. What i do to combat this is; i use Dust-Off compressed air, a carbon fiber brush and some micro fiber towels. To clean the vinyl i use The Disc Doctor cleaning system, http://www.discdoc.com/ very good product.

I have used Gruv Glide, that stuff did nothing but put a coat of some crap on it and attracted dust like a magnet I want me records clean not full of some oily junk, now they are

Get into the habbit of cleaning the record before you play it.
I usually have a felt cloth with me just in case of dust on the record. If need be I will also use my bottom of my T-shirt (Which isn't too clever but if needs must...) and if stuff gets caught on the stylus then use my fingers making sure to grab the fluff not the stylus.

For bedroom DJs, don't leave your records on the decks once you have stopped spinning... sure to collect tons of dust and static.

Valves... Yup, they sound better. A warmer, cleaner and richer sound that is not equaled by any transistor.
Just look in the world of guitarists. Rock people will allways try and get an old Marshall stack as they used valves compared to the new transistor ones.
The reason why you don't get many of them is that they cost more to produce. Sometimes the valves also need to be changed apparently (Not something I know for sure but have heard).
