Question DJ-Skill-Question

Not to brag, but im pretty much amazed by my own DJ-skills.
I got turntables like 6 months now, what skill level does the average DJ have at that moment then?

Well thats nothing special dude. Some people just have more feeling for music. I got my first turntables almost 8 years ago. They we're beltdrive soundlabs and within a week i got the hang of it.

My conclusion: some people learn it within a week, some people will just never learn it. A friend of mine doesnt even know what im talking abbout when i try to explain he has to count with the tracks to make it easier.

I got my first set of decks (gemini xl-300's) 10 days ago and i can already mix pretty well. The only problem being that it takes me the whole song to get the beats matched (prolly the shitty TT's) but im getting faster at it every day .

Being able to DJ live in front of a massive crowd of people is a combination of confidence and skill. If you have one, but not the other, you will usually fail miserably and be boo'ed off stage (it happens to every DJ once)

The problem lies when DJs get OVER-confident and turn into wankers, basically people who think that they're an Oakenfold prodigy, too good to hang out or play with the other locals. They can talk-the-talk but when it comes down to a VS set they fold.

Bottom line: never forget your friends, never forget your roots

Mixing is more than just beat matching, you can always make your transitions cleaner, smoother...better. But as others have said, some have it, some dont, and yes it definitely changes the level of difficulty when youre in front of a larger crowd with huge speakers thumping all around you.

ps. I dont know if the one comment was a knock on tiesto, but ive heard some god awful mixing from him in livesets-oh well still gotta love him

I absolutely do not have to love him... I wouldn't be surprised if hes doing britney spears remixes in the year to come
