actually i'm getting pretty bored by that sound..
95% chance its a detuned supersaw with loads of chorus/reverb/delay on it if its the (cheesy) song I have in mind
Though right you may be, I see nothing wrong with trying to recreate the sound, that's always a good thing to do in the learning process.

try adding some high frequency noise to the synth as well, that gives the cheesy high pitched feel innit. but its as dezma said, just a combo of detuned saws with chorus and reverb.

I think it's mentioned with a link in some threads here ie either the best VST synths, or best free software synth (superwave is a free SynthEdit synth).
