Use search or do some research online.

Hihats, part of a drumset.

http://www.royerlabs.com/photos/bru...w_hihat1_LG.jpg for a pic.

Basically, you hit it with the drumsticks, but you have a pedal (which you control with the foot) that can open or close the hihat. Open means there is a space between them, so they "ring freely". If it's closed, the two cymbals touch each other, so the resonation gets dampened, and you get a very short sound.
Of course, this comes from an accoustic drumkit, but can be recreated electronically.

For the über noobs among you, it's the "tss" sound. In trance for example it's used pretty much all the time offbeat (between two beats).

Hey TLam.... Im sure your mother once said "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all."
Well I'm going to take her advice and pass it on to you cause you obviously didnt get it... "If you don't have anything helpful to say, don't waste your frickin posts and our frickin time with it."
Maybe rather than saying "do a search" you could type "part of a drumset" if you know... cause if you don't know you shouldn't be responding anyways, leave that to the more educated pal.

Sorry for everyone else who has to read this post but i'm sure you will more than well agree with me.

This is actually a quite useful post where "noobs" like me can get a better understanding of what the hell you guys are talking about anyways.

While we're still on the point (i would not imagine we would stray far from it anyways) I have always wondered what the phrase "PM" means... as in "pm me for more info". I myself actually did search and i found out so this post i guess is more or less useless, but what I'm trying to say, if you know what it is, let the person know. But if you don't know, don't add a half-assed post like "try the search button". Im a nub and lookin to get better, I'm sure you are too.
Matt

*EDIT* btw dartman thanks for the post, I think your right, but what I really want to know is what they do? Has anyone here done a 2x4 (sounds sorta wrong, eh?)

Hey Nou,

A 2x4 is primarily something that you would get turntablists doing.
Typically you would have one of the DJs beat juggling to create a beat whilst the other guy performs tricks over the top. The Scratch Pickelz and the Scratch Perverts do it amongst others.

Cheers
Nem

It may have not been the nicest thing in the world Seven.dj but It's not as if doing some hardcore research is going to not help him out. I most likely just have different learning methods than yourself. I dont ask questions from people here most of the time cuz lots of them are easily upset (like yourself) and opinionated about everything. I'd rather just look it up is all.

I hate to seem like I'm picking on you TLAM but the irony of the whole situation is that I find that it's normally posts like your first one that puts people off from asking questions and not seven.dj's. Whilst it also has to be said that you are actually correct in your initial statement but it's pretty fair to say that there are a lot of pretty pointless posts that make actually extracting informaion quite a tedius task.

Not trying to start a fight with you just calling it the way I see it, although it's fair to say that it's easy to read tone of voice into posts sometimes and I find myself getting annoyed the whole time.

Just out if interest what is that vinyl in your signature? I have something similar from when I was a kid, although it's is in Swedish.

Cheers
Nem

It also includes djs in other genres of music. Something like Dj Lemon vs. Ferry Corsten is a 2 by 4 also. I think its where djs play one record, and the next one plays another record

I would have to agree with you on the indecipherable tone of voice Nemesis.

As best I can remember it was a sing along storybook or some sort. I was less then thrilled when I recieved it as I'm sure my expression suggests. Who knew it was foreshadowing for events to come.
