hhmmmm....I think this has retribution towards Germany written all over it. But hey, Rummy says we do need to "re-structure" our priorities.

I was kinda interested to hear what the Polaks think of this.

Moving some troops to Poland was always on the table after the Poles joined NATO. The Iraq war just accelerated what was going to happen eventually. Ths US was always more appreciated in "New Europe" anyhow.

From a "Polak's" view-

Our military forces are quite good, but not good enough to go into any sort of war by ourselves. Our boys are trained from a young age to go into the military, and we have enormous amounts of Polish pride and patriotism. The US joining in with Poland isn't necessarily too bad of an idea, because it would help us out.

However. I think the main problem might be the US' way of taking over things. If they march into Poland intending to help out... and decide how to run things, they will encounter many problems.

Poland got fucked over in the last WW, twice, no less. I'm hoping to see that if this war erupts into something similar, we won't be left in the dust again. We were one of the first countries to take a stand by the US for the war on Iraq, even with the exent of problems such actions took. When it comes down to what may happen in the future, I hope that America will do the same, rather than wait till it's too late, like in the case with WWII.

the yanks always have to be screwing around somewhere. The germans want them out, the japanese want them out, the koreans want them out. They need somewhere new to go. Poland needs cash, the us has cash. will be a good trade for a decade until the americans wear out the welcome.

I suppose it's easy for you to forget who was the first country to stand up to aide the US in this war against Iraq? What country was WITH the American forces when they captured Sadam? The Polish Brigade. You think the Polish troops weren't sent around the world? Think again. Half the boys I grew up with are in Iraq, or in a different country, fighting the "American War".

Some examples of countries that protect themselves: Isreal has a great history of coming out ontop when they've been out gunned and out numbered. The Vietnamese beat the Japanese, the French, and the Americans. The Afghanis beat the Russains, and have for the most part Stagnated the Americans. You talk of all this polish pride, yet you openly admit you're country is quickly becoming a lackey of the USA. You say that your country can't afford surgery, then why send troops all over the world to fight americas unjust wars? Poland is a member of NATO, if anyone attacked them then all of NATO would be comitted to fighting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe I used the word "saved" in any part of my posts.

Poland doesn't need to be "saved". They are working together with the American's in their war. We have a good army, but it never hurts to have true alliances. We are not the American's "Lackey". Poland chose to help, just like the US chose not to help in WWII.

Heh, I like the way you all think nowadays. "Once they are attacked, we'll try and help". Rather then making the necessary precautions to send out the message "You're not going to beat us down, we're ready for you".

It's a small country. And a poor country. I will admit this. We have a good army, but sometimes, different measures have to be taken.

Mind you- I'm typing this while I'm half asleep, so I'm hoping that it's all perfectly clear and legible.

Anuneventrade don't even worry with failsafe, the easiest remark to make about anyone who cooperates with the U.S. is that they are a lackey, what are they if they cooperate with the British, French, Germans, Russians, Italians, Spanish Poland is a nation that has fought and suffered long for its independence and will make the decisions that are in the best interests of Poland. The same NATO will defend them that can't meet the challenges in Afghanistan, cuts back on modernising the military and is held hostage by the interests of admittedly the U.S as well as the Germans, French, Belgians and Luxembourg quartet of new European World power(aka contra America) when it comes to making important decisions, don't make me laugh failsafe, did Canada get those new choppers as yet for the Army No offense my Canadian friends I love Canada and its people, plan to live their by the way but failsafe seems to feel the U.S. is the be all that ends all in negative world issues, I have news its not. You wouldn't happen to live in TO failsafe would you because then I'm moving to Nunavut to get far away Just kidding man I would live anywhere in Canada especially if my government continues to deprive me of and erode my rights as failsafe believes.

P.S. failsafe we agree on one thing I am an isolationist and would love nothing better than to see my government get out of the Korean Peninsula and Europe, with the exception of Iraq right now, for obvious reasons, but it will not happen. If the South Koreans want to burn American flags and spit on U.S. troops why should we stay in an unwelcomed place. U.S. troops have committed some unfavorable acts there but last time I checked it wasn't the U.S. with possible nukes that could wipe out Seoul under the leadership of a despot with a Napoleonic complex in Kim Jong Il. The fact is that there is not one other nation on this earth right now that could offer South Korea security apart from the U.S. Maybe its time they solve the problems with their Korean brothers by themselves and their regional neighbours

Keep in mind that only a portion of the population of each country you listed wants us out. U.S. bases do not just carry around military weight, but economic and educational variables as well. Okinawa for instance, is heavily dependent on the American base there for jobs and English education. The naval base(s) on mainland Japan are also great economic factors, but the Japanese gov't and a large portion of the population realizes that the U.S. there because of the volatile situations with China and North Korea.

The South Korean base is something that the South Korean gov't and elderly want, and need, to keep. It is mostly the South Korean youth that wants the U.S. to leave because they believe we're imperialists, unilateralists, warmongers etc. Hell, many South Korean kids think that the U.S. is more of a danger than North Korea. The South Korean gov't realizes that North Korea would not hesitate to invade if the U.S. base was not presently there.

I honestly think that we don’t need a massive military outpost in Europe....mainly because a large majority of Europe have become pacifists and Russia is not a great threat currently.

The Germans don't want the US military there, the Polish do.

The German economy has recovered, the Polish one is just being created.

So why not take the high expertise, professional, well-paid, and operational expenses associated with manning the US presence in Europe to a country that needs and welcomes it?

A educated, well-paid, presence of Americans in Polish will do the same wonders to it as the American presence did to help contribute to the rebuilding of Germany and Japan, brining technology, medicine, education, wealth, and expertise in dozens of related fields to the Polish people.... who knows free trade might be next?
