first of all, to each his own, i don't care if you like techno, trance, dnb or monkey's banging on garbage can's...
the reason i don't like techno is that it doesn't hold a beat...even if it goes into a decent beat, it never last's or it get's looped for 5 minutes :P and listening to a set just for those few moments of nice beats is not my idea of having a good time. trance on the other hand, at least good trance, will always have some beat or build up no matter how hard or confusing it is. there's another problem with techno, it never leaves me satisfied! granted, i listened to VERY few techno tunes in my life, but if i was going to like the genre, i would have heard atleast ONE tune i liked enough to look for more techno...
and all this talk about techno being hard and trance being soft, who the fuck cares, why would i want to listen to crap music (no offense.heh) just to say "yea! i listen to hard music and am l33t and you suck cause you listen to your pussy trance". ill take my soft trance music and relax/dance to it, along with all the other genre's which hold a nice beat!

I initially got into the whole electronic music scene with trance, digitallyimported radio to be exact.
As for Techno, there's some djs that will really get me going, some that I will be bored to hell listening to.
Minimal techno for example will bore me to death, I just need some kind of change over a certain period of time, and minimal techno just doesn't satisfy my desires.
Djs who play funky techno will always be my favourite because I love variety in techno. Only beats just doesn't do it.
Djs like Dave Clarke or Ben Sims who mix constantly, and who are technically amazing, well I love their style.
But they're unique on this planet.
On the other hand, I can only talk from what I've heard on livesets and seen on videos because the only techno event I've ever attended was Mistress Barbara at Aria.
I had a blast and I would for sure attend another techno event at Aria, if I know for sure, the dj will get me dancing and keep me interested for the whole night.
Later.
PS: FunKenLouis, je t'ai rencontre a James Holden, si tu te souviens encore. J'etais celui qui avait amene sa camera digitale.
