As to the question...the way I see it, if you simply respond with "because," you aren't really being very logical. That is, it's like the equivalent of saying "I'm right because I say I'm right." It's an appeal to authority, and all philosophy students and teachers should know that it's a big no-no (or logical fallacy to be more accurate).
Whereas responding with "why not?" leaves open the possibility for your own error, but also asks for proof from the other side. Of course, simply because the other side cannot prove their view does not necessarily mean that your view is the correct one.
I think that neither of these answers is the "correct" answer, although one is "more correct" than the other.

the answer is "why not." My Architecture teacher was given that question for an exam. He answered "why not" while everyone else in the class spent up to 4 hours writing out the answer. He received an A+

Answering in a question is simply avoid the original question. For example...
"What is the meaning of life?"
"What isn't the meaning of life?"
