trance.nu reviews X-tension / Odyssee
X-Tension - Singing Synths
The third release of the recently started GT Records label from Holland. This time it's a quite remarkable construction, with Daniel van Wanrooy (Spinnin' & Massive Drives releases under his belt) co-operates with two different people on both sides. On the A-side he works together with René Havelaar and on the flipside Odyssee - Runaway is planted, where Robin van der Wiel is involved. Some DJ's are supporting this at the moment, like Niklas Harding, Precision and Ton TB to name some bigger names.
A. X-Tension - Singing Synths
This is a solid trancer, that's the headliner of this vinyl. After the straightforward start it builds it's way steadily to a nice breakdown with some angelic vocals, before crashing into a breakbeat part with a spooky hookline supported by a mild bassline. The cross from vocals to melody is very nicely done and explains the title of this track, because it sounds like the synths are taking over the singing. The hookline is kinda catchy and has a very distinctive sound, although it sounds a little flat and simple. Quite a nice track, but not really powerfull enough.
B. Odyssee - Runaway
This is a driving and powerfull trancer, that will please the fans of that "1999" trance sound. It's a very solid track with a short repetitive hook and a driving bassline and flow. It's very energetic, mainly because of it's high-pitched melodic lead and short breakdowns, that keep the flow going on.
Conclusion
Two very decent tracks. The last track from GT Records wasn't my cup of tea, but this release is remarkably stronger. Nice to see some unknown Dutch talents doing their own thing. Worth checking out!
