Cable crazy

I have a prob with my cabling. I've heard you can't use both your soundcard's line in and line out jacks at the same time...is that true??

This is my problem..

i'm using :

1)monitors connected to my mixer
2)2 turntables, connected to (duh) mixer
3)Traktor software, connected from the green jack(1 output) and black jack(2nd output) on my soundcard, into my mixer.

All i'm trying to do is record on my pc, mixing with 4 channels (2 TTs and the 2 traktor outputs). I've tried plugging shit from my mixer's TAPE output into the soundcard's BLUE LINE-IN jack, but it doesnt make sense to me.

Any suggestions??

ok i managed to hook it up.. now i'm using soundforge to record. and now i've got this BIGGER problem. its not really related, but..

i use the upfaders when i mix, the x-fader stays in the middle. as a result, whatever i am cueing up gets recorded as well! not sure if you get what i mean.

even when the upfader for that channel is down, the input signal is still being transmitted into my pc. so in my recordings you can actually hear EVERYTHING i was hearing as well, and not just what the crowd is supposed to hear.

is there any way to solve this or do i just have to use the x-fader??

ok could you please explain how to go about using the splitter?

also .. a Y splitter is a 1 to 2 splitter right?

my current cable i'm using for input to my pc is:
red/white RCA from my mixer on one end into a minijack on my soundcard at the other end.

i tried other recording software. its still the same. its like the upfaders and crossfaders(i tried those too) have no use. so long as theres an input signal going to the mixer it is recorded along loud n clear, even with the channel's volume turned to the lowest.
