D:Fuse - People 2 (GOOD trance, no cheese. Two discs, 1 is chillout/laid back stuff, the other is a clubbing disc thats groovier/harder)
Underworld - Anthology (Underworld can do anything... plus the order of the tracks is placed as a timeline of their work, starting in 1992, which can give a newbie a good idea of where things have come from)
The Best of Platipus mixed by Anthony Pappa (This is pretty much where your modern trance comes from. Teach him his proper roots. Two disc's of Platipus' best shit up to about 99 or so. No anthems, just classic acid trance.)
