all that any music is lies withing three factors: rythm, harmony, melody....
now, since most trance has the same rythm, we wont go very far with that great of a rythm. in fact, if anyone wanted to be adventurous with the rythm aspect, it probably wouldnt be considered trance anymore.
now harmony. most tracks have one chord progression with four chords. this is usually with some synth, or what have you. there is often also an underlying bass line. now, the harmonies in trance music, again, very simple. i dare say, that if producers were too adventurous with the harmonies (what chord progressions they write), it would not be popular by any means. (think of crazy jazz progressions with synths.) most trance heads like the simple, easy progressions.
now the melody. this seems to be the only place where trance artists can get to be adventurous. you can get a cool female, or male vocal going, or arpegiate the chords, or some simple melody. remember, you dont want to get too adventurous being that it is dance music, music that can be danced to. that said, it has all been done over and over again.
so if you are really bored, try some different genres of music, and there are plenty, especially within the electronica scene. if the rythm is what bores you, try breaks, jungle or drumnbass. if the harmonies bore you, try prog house. if the melodies bore you, try goa or psy trance. and remember, there is a whole other world of music beyond electronica, too.
