No Copy Protection logo - !K7

Found this while browsing the !K7 record label website. I thought this was an interesting stance by a record label....

!K7 Records launches "NO copy protection" logo
A call for a respectful attitude towards music

You can do all sorts of things with music. You can listen to it once, twice, or as many times as you like. You can do it by yourself or with friends. You can give your favorite music as a present. Perhaps you'll be given music as a present yourself. Music you've never heard of and wouldn't otherwise have come across. You can talk about music during the day in the record shop and at home or at clubs in the evenings. Music is culture. And culture is life.

That's why, from now on, !K7 releases will carry a new logo: "NO copy protection - respect the music". This makes it clear that you've bought a CD and you can use it however you want. It's also clear, therefore, that good music has a prerogative - it has a right to be treated with respect.

"NO copy protection" is an indication that there is a reciprocal loyalty between the buyer and the label. The old song about mutual give and take has been given a new verse: Copy protection kills customer relationships. "NO copy protection" adds a new chorus. For only those to whom respect is given show respect themselves. Music is valuable. Those who love it, treat it accordingly: Trust is good. Nothing is better.

Good to see a label standing up against copy protection of CDs, which is nothing short of a fucking joke.

as nice as it is to hear i dont think we will ever see the big labels which control like what seems to be 90% of the market ever doing something like this.

i've done some things with k7, nice label, nice people and smart marketing as well. Actually they know the same thing that I've told Sony about, the fact that copy protection cd's does NOT WORK in their discmans (they simply don't read the cd). I really don't give a shit about copy protection because I don't copy cd's BUT if they won't work in a certain medium, I wonder why should I buy the cd. I plan to avoid copy protection cd's if possible because of the fact that I tend to jog and take the bus places and I listen to a lot of music that way and if it will not work in ANY SONY DISCMAN then I ask what's the point. The copyright holder has the decision and the legal right to protect his or her work by copy protection but if the system is flawed and won't play in a certain maker discman who hold 50% of the market then I wonder why?. As most of you know, I bought a chemical brothers cd that was fixed but it took too long to fix and complete. Pathetic in my opinion, I mean I will buy cd's as long as they work in the car cd player, my cd-rom on my pc, my discman and my room stereo, if it does not work in one of those, I rather not spend the money.
