Melodies and chords any tips?

hey guys i'm more of a technical guy and don't have much piano playing background. So this is actually why i came here. Anyone got any tips for progression with chords or even single notes? Also I've come to the conclusion that the bassline is the key element to getting that true uplifting sound. The question here is do you follow the melody exactly? for example if your melody was A, C, D, E, should your bassline follow this exaclty? it seems to me that it sounds sort of cheesy.Or would u change the 3rd note to a lower or higher note?

No, don't follow your chords with your melody. Follow your melody from your chords. Try holding a CM(ajor) chord in your left hand while playing a three note melody in your right (try c, e, f,e). Continue playing the melody and switch your left hand chord to FM or GM. Notice the emotions generated by this progression. It's a very happy feeling. Now if you change the chord to Em it will sound sad or appethetic. Thus is how to generate emotions with chord progressions and melodies.

Just find the progression that suits the feeling you are looking for and then generate a melody to match that chord progression.

Of course this is ultra simplified, but it is enough to make 70% of all melodic trance songs.

As a really simple example, if you're playing A,C,D,E on the melody, try playing it with A in the bass for a while, then shift to maybe lower F in the bass. Then maybe try going down to D or whatever. It's good starting on A because then any of the white keys on your keyboard (or key editor) are fair game.

You probably don't want to just play the notes of the chords as your melody, you'll get a pretty simple arpeggio. The beauty of melody comes from building tension, and tension is created by playing notes that aren't part of the main triads. For example G and B are good tension builders for a bass root of A.
