Thumbs down Paul Oakenfold

Paul Oakenfold in my opinion used to be one of the best trance djs in the world (circa 1998) But the sets I have heard from him over the last two years have been SHOCKING! No mixing at all and when I saw him at Homelands he was utterly un-interested in what was going on. He simply turned up to get his money. I think its about time that he retired - if you don't have a passion for it, you shouldn't be doing it.

Oakenfold - your time is up!

Anyone else agree/disagree?

A good proportion of his sets, well atleast radio based sets aren't actually mixed by Oakey but rather he just selects the tracks and order.

Then someone else just loads it all into Digidesign Pro-Tools and the computer does the mixing.

Can't really comment on his live stuff of late though, haven't heard much.

Have you ever listened to his recent State Side or Dance Department sets? I don't think so.

Correction: Paul Oakenfold USED to be a legend. End of.

I would much rather see someone like Eddie Halliwell play - young and full of enthusiasm, than see Oakenfold turn up to collect his money and not give a f**k about his performance.

FFS get a clue. If you think Eddie Halliwell is the way forward, then I can't take you serious.

I just saw Oakenfold a month ago at the Hollywood Bowl and he was simply awesome. He DID mix and the place was packed just for him. No one else was spinning.

this man speaks the truth

oakie is good...if you think that he's outdated you obviously don't listen to stateside. he plays all the good tunes other djs play plus the stuff that only he can get...

he's been playing in america too long, they listen to their music weird. They seem to think a good mix is one that is as short as possible, ie a straight cut. weird i tell you

Saw the man about 3 weeks ago. Legendary. Played with the crowed, accknoledged everybody at the front! Made sure he was in full contact with them. He didnt just show up and collect his money. He was dancing, lauging, smiling at the crowed. He got me so into it. I love the guy, and always will. Then stopped his set at the end, and dropped Coldplay - Clocks (Cosmos Remix) as an encore. He knows how to party. Even invited some guy with a crazy hat on stage.

btw his mixing was great. not super long, but he mixes so that you get the full effect of each song.

Pure Proffesional.
