Cool Final Scratch Help

I thought that I would start a thread for any new or old Final Scratch users, that have questions, beefs or whatever. I work for stanton, on a very very small basis, so I sometimes get to speak with the designers directly, and I also use it, so I can usually help with whatever problems you may have.

Fire Away.

Well, if you can talk to the designers...

I was just wondering, is the scratch amp at all complex ? I was talking to my bro (who is great with electronics), and he seemed to think that if he could open up one, it'd be rather easy to make your own.

So I guess my question is, are there any complex electronics in the thing or is it just some simple things to go from analog to digital ?

The ScratchAmp is simple. It is two sound cards each with a 2 RCA outputs and 1 RCA input. I think the hardest part would be getting drivers that made it work in FinalScratch. If you are serious about this definitly checkout the Developer's Corner of the FS forums, some serious knowlege can be found there.

ScratchAmp

The ScratchAmp is definately not my favorite part about final scratch. I have requested many times that the scratch amp be redesigned. With better A/D Converters, as well as the drivers being updated to play any digital audio file. Especially 24 bit audio if so desired.

As far your own scratchamp, you can use any digital audio card, as long as you had enough inputs/outputs. The hard part like what was said above, is doing drivers for it. Final Scratch currently only works with there own device. Its really too bad that you can't just buy Traktor and use any audio device. They sure would sell a lot more.

I was hoping to make use of this thread as well as give it a little bump . . .

I just purchased FinalScratch 1.1, and I don't know if I got a corrupt? copy of it or what, but it doesn't work at all. Like the program itself is not functional. I think it has something to do with the linux kernel; you basically cannot press buttons, move the cursor around the whole screen, etc. My brother is pretty knowledgable with linux, and from what he tells me over the phone, it sounds like Final Scratch has its own little xwindows program that it runs, and theres something thats not agreeing with my computer.

If anybody can shed a little light on the subject, it would be greatly appreciated, at this point I have no idea what to do.

Also, do you HAVE to have another operating system present on the computer or can you import music files without having windows on the drive? This hard drive is only 15 gigs, and I'm hoping that I can use the majority of that for music.

Thanks in advance.

Final Scratch 1.1?

If you just purchased the 1.1 version since jan, you can get a free upgrade to the windows version of final scratch. If you purchased it before Jan 04, then its 75 bucks.

That may be a much easier solution.

I haven't really dealt with the linux side of final scratch, That was one of the main reasons I bought my powerbook. So that I could run final scratch native in the main OS. If you still have problems though, PM me, and I will see what I can do to help.
