For years now I've wanted to work out things about windows that should actually be simple.

====I'll start with .ini files======

Who really understands these friggin things anyway. I made some background pictures for one of my hard drives.

alrighty, *sigh* heres the problem. I want windows to alternate pictures itself because I am a lazy bastard.

I need some dude that knows programming code or something to tell me some sort of random command that will deal with all the files.

I've tried this:
IconArea_Image=C:\windows\black.bmp, grey.bmp, blue.bmp

...but commas seem to have no effect

wuddoo ahdu Corbin? wuddoo ahduuuuu!!!!!!?

====No Settings=====

since switching to XP my CD drive always thinks that the previous CD is in the drive. For example if i put in a DVD and then a CD it will open 'PowerDVD' when opening the drives folder.

Device Manager in 98 had properties with things such as "DMA" "Disconnect" and "Auto-Detect".

Where the fack did that shit go in XP. I've got no way of making it aware of which CD is present.

====Photoshop======

On my old computer when I made radial gradients in Photoshop you could always see these lines where the colours merged. at first I thought "probably because im running 24-bit colour". Now I've got a geforce2 and the same thing happens in 32 bit colour. tell me that this isnt a Photoshop problem....

Thats about it for now. I'll post more later

An INI file is just a set of parameters divided into sections. Every line is going to have the form param=value. Thus:

You haven't really explained what you're trying to do exactly, but as a general rule, you cannot assign more than one value to a single parameter. This doesn't really have anything to do with INI files - it's simply a principle of programming. The only situation in which you'd be able to use commas, semicolons, or any other delimiter, would be if the program reading the INI file is specifically designed to use multiple values and read a delimited list as a single parameter.

I don't think icon areas fit into that category.

Some of those properties are obsolete in XP. Others have just been moved. DMA is located on the IDE channel's properties, under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section of the device manager. AutoPlay properties can be set by right-clicking on the drive in My Computer and going to its properties. For many other settings that are hard to locate, try Microsoft's PowerToy, Tweak UI.

I wouldn't personally recommend radial gradients under any circumstances as they can be quite ugly, but simply put, the most likely reason to see "lines" (by which I assume you mean areas of sharp colour contrast) is that the colours being blended are too far apart on the palette. If you need to make a gradient from say, purple to yellow, then you're going to need to edit the gradient to put some intermediate colours in there to make it look "smooth".

Hope that helps.

sorry but most likely its a photoshop "problem". its kinda like u installing pong and expecting it not to display in monochrome in 32 bit mode.

There might be a setting in photoshop preferences to display gradients better. Just remember that graphic programs usually give u an aproximate preview of the gradient because otherwise it would take forever to redraw.

Ok I just remembered some more.

File Associations
=================

File Associations in XP are so fucking stupid.

I made one for .jpg files titled "Edit in Photoshop".

Now, that’s all well and good except for the fact that I can’t open multiple files this way. It shits me so fucking much. It just opens multiple instances of Photoshop.

When I was running 98 it would automatically open them up in the one instance.

All I need to know is the extra things you can put at the end:

and before someone says something stupid like

"Why don’t you just go to Open With -> Photoshop"......

I DONT want to have to do that every time. I just want something in the first menu that opens all of the pictures in the same instance of Photoshop.

the other fucking thing that I hate about XP associations is this:

Media types have their own associations and my pc keeps defaulting back to DVD decrypter whenever I left-click on the DVD-drive icon in quick launch.
(for those who don’t know, quick launch is the bar next to the start menu, where icons can be placed)

I cant remove the "Decrypt using DVD decrypter" association because it keeps coming back. I don’t actually want ANY associations with just opening the drive. I just want to be able to left click to open the friggin' drive and browse through files. I shouldn’t have to right click and go explore every damn time

and also, one last thing... Where the feck'n hell can I find my video card properties in XP ive looked in every possible place and I’m telling you.... there not there!

DigiNut hit the major topics of the "you're an admitted dumbass" thread. What he didn't hit was the following:

Spend a few bucks on a decent system, asswipe. And by the way, this isn't a geek forum so prepare to be flamed when you tout your ignorance.
