Anyone ever encounter a needle that doesn't work in reverse?
I just picked up a couple of replacement styli for my Shure SC-35C carts yesterday, and discovered something interesting with one of the needles.
It works perfectly when playing the track, but when you reverse the record direction (such as when you're cueing), it skips like crazy, with the needle rapidly skipping off the record.
I've definately isolated the stylus as the problem, almost like it has a manufacturing defect (not properly rounded?).
i would contact shure about it... it sounds like a manufacturing defect.. especially considering that the other one works perfectly. they will prob replace it if you have the warranty

sounds right idea to me.......but only if its a crazy amount of skippage.
remember carts need broken in.
that said if it is a significant differance from the other one then something is most likely wrong and when styli are wrong they damage records

In the case I'm going to take it by the store I bought it from today.
Unfortunately they aren't a very good store in terms of DJ equipment, so we'll see if they decide to screw me. I expect a straight replacement for it.

I doubt they would replace it. In the past i've used sc-35c and m35x carts and it would of been my choice needle. Except everytime i bought a replacement stylus, it would always ended up damaged. (i bought a total of 4 for both carts, and 3 out of 4 had bent cantilevers. Then i switched to 520sk, and now Whitelabels. I just hope whitelabel styli don't end up DOA.

Fortunately they replaced it, after the sales guy gave me a dose of attitude for 10 minutes or so.
I'm kind of disheartened to hear that you had problems with that many of the replacement styli for the SC-35 carts though. I'm pretty happy overall with the carts, and they've been used once so far in a club, sounded pretty decent.
The previous needles lasted me a year or so, so these ones should carry me over to when I invest in a pair of Whitelabels or Concordes.
i think my styil must of been damaged during shipment to that store. But I have learned my lesson: never buy a bulk amount of styli at once. And i think I will also try to avoid buying stuff from that store alltogether.

Yup. I've pretty much decided to shop elsewhere, long before this particular little problem. Their service stinks, the only reason I bought my tables/mixer there is that they had a fairly decent financing plan.
We have a couple of other stores locally that are far more DJ friendly, any future purchases will definately be made at one of them...
