Youre fine with a non denon mixer, and a denon cd player. I prefer denon cd players and vestax mixers.
Mixing with a dns5000 is very possible, you can control, and cue the alpha track (and loop i think) i would guess it would be a bit of a pain in the ass.
Mixing with 2 cdj100s would be more instantly gratifying, but youll find yourself wanting to upgrade pretty quickly. The main reason is that the have 0.1 pitch, while the dns5000 has 0.02. So i would spend the money on 1 dns5000, and tough it out until you can get a second one.
Once you do have a second 1, youll have 2 great cd players with 4 samplers (each one has 2 samplers) A bunch of hot cues, and each having an alpha track (this would be like mixing on 4 decks, great if youre into techno) And accurate pitch.
You might want to look into getting 2 dns3000s, they are much cheaper than a dns5000.. It only has 1 sampler, and no alpha track though, but the important thing is that it has 0.02 pitch.
Cdj800 is also an option, its about the same price as a dns3000, no sampler, or spinning platter, and less accurate pitch (0.05) You might prefer its feel though.
EDIT: When i was getting my setup, i was considering getting 1 dns5000, and waiting a looong time to get a second one, or getting a pair of dns3000s. I went with the pair of 3000s.

Beats and beeps: How come everybody gets all wrapped up if the display shows the pitch in 0,1%? Who says that the pitch can't be more accurate then the display is showing? (e.g. Numark TTX, CDX, etc.)

And 0.05 pitch accuracy (ie CDJ-800) is fine IMO, unless you're doing very long seamless house/prog house mixes. And for a grand you can get two new CDJ-800s off Ebay (although without the full-on warranty since they're not authorized dealers), but still that's a good deal, and Pioneer stuff is generally very solid quality-wise. You can also contact a TA here (DJ Tranz); he may hook you up with some nice deals... |
Just to let you know I got a pair of CDJ-1000's for 1000$ on ebay its like buy 1 get 1 free!

Because it is a digital deck, not analog. With cd players the pitch increases by the percentage shown in your display. If you have it set on the widest range, there will not be any change in pitch when you move the slide just a bit until the next increment is made. This is why people can say their 1200s are more accurate than any cd player on the market.
With TTX you have analog pitch, with a digital display, thats why it can be more accurate than the display shows. The display is just rounding it. The CDX is digital, so 0.1 is as accurate as you can get.
