Mackie Hr624

Hi There!

I was wondering if any fellow TA's are using mackie HR624 monitors currently.

I read whole bunch of reviews and stuff, and I was going to purchase MACKIES HR824's but thease are a bit cheaper, and I was wondering if any one here like's em for mixing trance or similar type of music. I heard the MACKIES HR824 and I was impressed. They didn't have HR624 at the store at that time so I coud not compare them. Before purchasing I will go to the store and listen to them of course. Just wondering what are your opinions, and If you would get those or prehaps the bigger and a little more expensive HR824's. I curently own alesis M1 active monitors, but I feel like I am missing something after hearing the mackies at the store. I took one of my cd's to the store and there was a real diefferance in what I heard in my mix. Well I was thinking about genelecs, but they are a little too much money, and most people advise to get the subwoofer for them. That would bump the price eaven higher. Mackies on the other hand have a nice low end that's really huge compare to my alesis monitors. I will end up keeping the alesis monitors as referance if I decide to go for Mackies... Since I have an Idea of how the stuff I make sounds on my current monitors..
Well thx in advance for replies..

The 624s were one of the pairs I tested when I went monitor shopping and I must say that I wasn't impressed at all by them. As far as needing a sub for the genelecs, the same thing is recommended with the 624. Lacking in the low end they are.

Sold 624's got 824's instead. The most amazing monitors by far. Of course, if you got the cash, Genelecs are the way to go, fo sho'. Stay away from KRK's - too bright... I also hear great things about Blue Sky (http://www.abluesky.com)- have not compared them to HR's yet. But for hours on end, 824's are zero fatigue and sound crisp across the entire frequency range. The only complaint I have is that they do tend to emphasize low end, so when you're listening on a car stereo you may get distortion.

But 624's are great if you got a small setup/budget.

Edit: Not to discredit 624's - they were terrific - I just moved to a biger room and 624's were not cutting' it for me. They would be great to have in a 5.1 system for front, 626 for Center 824's for rear and sub for the .1. - That would be such a killer (and expensive) system!!!

824s are flat across the entire frequency spectrum, but they are very sensitive to room placement. The Genelecs are better than the 824s, but the difference isn't that remarkable. I would go for the 824s. You can get them at American Musical for a good price on a good payment plan.
