Ortofon DJ-S vs Nightclub S Comparison
I finally had the chance to actually compare the two. Heres what I used to compare them:
2 Technics SL1200 MK2
1 Ortofon Concorde DJ-S
1 Ortofon Concorde Nightclub S
1 Behringer DJX700
1 Seinheisser HD280 PRO
Arm height set to 5 mm
Tracking force set to 3 g
Right off the bat, I could tell that the bass on the DJ-S is much more "in your face" and boomy. The Nightclub's overall response sounded a bit flatter than the DJ-S. I definitely liked the tonal characteristics of the Nightclub better. I then put on Sphongle - Beija Flor and listened to the guitars at the end. The highs on both needles did seem nearly identical and both were pleasurable to my ears.
Contrary to what i've read on the forums, the audible differences between these two needles are not as tiny as many say.
So in the end, does the difference in sound justify the 30 dollar price tag difference? This depends on how fat your wallet is. I was able to get the DJ-S kit with 2 styli for $100 each. The Nightclub kit ran me $129.99 at guitar center. So in the end you will spending 60 bucks extra for the nightclubs. I would do it and get the nightclubs. However, you can't go wrong with the DJ-S.
Comments and questions welcome. Somebody should do the same thing with the whitelabel and the nightclub/dj-s
