Paul Van Dyk Live @ Sziget Fesztival, Budapest (Hungary) 08-04-2003 [incl. pics]
Paul Van Dyk came to Budapest on the 4th of August to perform an amazing 2.5 hours set. Of course we didn't want to miss out, so me and some of my friends headed to an island on the Danube where this party was hosted. It was kind of weird though, because "Sziget Fesztival" is basically a rock festival, and when we got to there @ 19h, it was like rock music played everywhere, we didn't really enjoy it as we can't really stand that kind of music (no offence to anyone really). But oh well, we thought that after suffering from this disaster they call music, we'll enjoy PvD even more. 
It was around 22:30 when we decided to check out the party tent where PvD would play. We were pretty surprised, the arena was larger than expected, and it was nicely designed with all the necessary sound and visual technics. At midnight we met some other friends too, and we entered the arena together. But PvD wasn't on yet, some other hungarian DJ played first, then at 1:10am Paul Van Dyk appeared in the DJ booth...! It was my first time to see him live, and I must say I'm well impressed. He played a lot of nice tracks, most of them I couldn't ID though, but it was a very uplifting set, with breakdowns and buildups in almost every track he dropped.
Here are some tracks I can remember the title of, they're not in any particular order. Masters & Nickson - 5th Dimension (this one was highly unexpected, great tune), Nu-NRG - Universe (definitely a nice fresh track), Kaylab - Fucking Society (it was without the vocals, but it still sounded DAMN good), Nu-NRG - Universe (what can I say... ownage ), Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel (too bad only 2-3 minutes of it), and so on. There were plenty of tunes I've definitely heard already, but I couldn't remember the title, it's so annoying, I guess you all know this feeling. So the set ended at ~3:40am, we went for a walk before leaving, and some people behind us were like "ah yea, this is the tent for that toilet music". We were smiling and thinking "poor guys, they have no idea".
(PS: sorry for the crappy english, and the ignorance of rock music, but now I hate it even more than before)
