Paul Van Dyk vs Paul Van Dijk

I was just thinking - What's the story behind the UK and US using his name as Paul Van Dyk, even though he's really Paul Van Dijk. For what I know he's still known by Dijk in Germany. Vandit experts - Know the answer?

House Disciples

Paul's name is often misspelled as "Dijk". There is a Dutch artist named 'House Disciples' formed by (two brothers?) Patrick and Marnix van Dijk, often credited as "P.v.Dijk & M.v.Dijk". Neither Paul van Dyk nor Mijk van Dijk are involved in this.

I have always had it as Dyk, but i've heard it pronounced as Dijk on numerous HR XXL sets in Germany, heard the rumor of it being originally Dijk. That's why I asked it. I'm not at all in the category of the fools who spell it like Dijk or Dyke, like Dick Van Dyke (famous for being in Mary Poppins)...

In german the J sounds like Y, so when they say Dijk, it sounds like Dyk. Two correct spellings, one correct pronounciation.

Aren't there any Dutch Tranceaddicts who can clear up this matter?

I'm not even Dutch (ie. from Holland, Netherlands), but I know that the surname Van Dijk is Dutch and the original proper spelling is Van Dijk. It might have been changed to Van Dyk to facilitate pronounciation, but the original surname is probably Van Dijk. In Dutch, Dijk is pronounced approximately the same as how we pronounce Dyk (or Dyke) in English, I think... not quite, but close.

Here where I live, there's a DJ who's surname is Van Tijn, but he sometimes goes by Van Tyn as his DJ name, so maybe Paul Van Dyk did the same type of thing. I mean, maybe he just uses Van Dyk as his DJ name, but still goes by Van Dijk on all official legal documents. Either that or his family changed the name and the Dutch are just spelling it like it would have originally been spelt OR the English speaking media changed it to facilitate English pronounciation.

Sal
