Question for final scratch users

i play a wide range of music and every time i play out i have to bring at least 2 record cases and a book of cds with me and i'm tired of lugging around all these heavy record cases

i've recently decided to purchase an apple g4 laptop and i'm seriously considering getting final scratch

i'm just wondering if final scratch is the answer i'm looking for

could any final scratch users post thier thoughts and comments on the system

I hate to be an ass but please search on this. I posted to a very similar topic a week or so ago.

Basically, wait for the new Rane product to come out and see how people compare the two. Other than that, FS is pretty sweet (especially if you already have a computer, I am tired of people getting pissed at FS saying "I paid F*ing $3,000 and it still has bugs!")

I would say go for it if you have the time to rip all your tracks.

True true. I use mp3s but if you are going to be smart about it (and have the space, keep them as AIFF (as you are on a Mac). The best solution would be to get really clean recordings of them and keep them as a WAV/AIFF then if you want you can rip those to mp3s (so you can fit tons on your computer) but always keep your full WAV/AIFF versions around. This shold making switching to a newer (.ogg or something else) format easier in the future.

They are developing a Mac and PC version.
From http://www.rane.com/scratch.html "The minimum operating system requirements are either a Mac G4, OSX 10.2.8, or a PC P3-700 running Windows XP."

thanks guys, i did search before posting but didn't get the info i was looking for

what i'm concerned about is i'm teaching myself to sratch, will FS be able to keep up or will it lag too much?

and i'm not worried about the time it will take to rip all my vinyl to wav (i'll probably rip to wav, considering i've never really worked with aiff)

it will just take an afternoon or 2 of some doobage and patience

You can scratch with FS. I have heard wicked scratchs that are way beyond my ability done with it (by Quartz on the FS forums). I too hope to get more into scratching with FS. I plan on getting some of the light "scratch" records and see how it goes. Trying to scratch with the heavy, mixing (aka "standard") record is tough. I get much better recults from some of my real records that are lighter. The nice thick vinyl is great for mixing, it is like your whole record collection is pressed on good thick 45s

Ripping your records WILL take a long time. You just have to be slow and methodical about it.

The only difference between a WAV file and an AIFF is that the 1s are 0s and the 0s are 1s. They are really exactly the same with AIFFs being the standard on Macs for years while WAVs were the standard on PCs (of course both can still play either file).

As a Final Scratch user for a year...DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!!!

I hate to say it but they're software is terrible. Native Instruments really screwed everyone over. If you don't believe please go to the final scratch forums: http://www.finalscratch.com/forum/default.asp

The chip inside the scratchamp is very faulty and the USB drivers they wrote for the program is absolutely terrible!! If I were you I would save your money and invest in using CD Turntables until the technology is perfected. I use a PB G4 15in. 1.25ghz stock machine running 10.2.8 because 10.3.3 doesn't suppport v1.1 of final scratch. v1.5 still doesn't work. Some people have got it to work but 99.9% still have problems.

Wait to see what Rane does, they took everything stanton had problems with and built around it. I'm about two seconds from ditching my stuff on ebay and going with rane. But I'm waiting to see how Rane stacks up to FS.

If you want to talk more about it hit me up. If you're in the states you can call my cell bro just PM me.
