I can't even believe it: I signed up for a new hotmail account yesterday and today Messenger tells me I have 9 new messages.

They have their ways.
Just keep your address to yourself if you don't want spam. Or get decent spam filters.

I didn't give my address out at all. I got this last night and went to bed. I e-mailed a resume to a company, but that is all.

I'm not quite sure.
But I rememeber reading that there was a somesort of online list of hotmail/msn accounts or something.
Not 100% sure of it. Cause Hotmail gone through several chances after Microsoft bought it.

Whenever you get a piece of spam mail, just add the mail sender to your block list and block their domain. This stops 98% or so of my spam.

I've had a Hotmail account for over 3 years and have yet to get any spam. I always had bad luck with Yahoo accounts before though, went through a couple of those.

I can't even imagine why this would work, since the return addresses are always fake and even the headers are usually spoofed.
Having said that, Hotmail = spam. Some lucky people who created their accounts between 1-3 years ago (not before, not after) don't get much spam, but otherwise, just having the account on Hotmail means you'll get spam. Why do you think Microsoft would offer a free service like that if they weren't profiting somehow? They sell addresses.

Yeah. I heard that they can get around 25 cents per name. That's good money if you have a million people signed up.
