In my last few mixes ive had a few tracks by the same artists. I figure it shouldn't really matter how many song of each artist you play as long as you like it, or as long as the crowd likes it, or whatever... I realize that theres 7 zillion songs out there, but my record collection hasn't passed 100 yet heh.

I was just curious to see if anyone considers the artist when they mix. By that i mean, Do you throw on a track because of who the artist is? or do you just throw on a track that you think sounds good, regardless of the artist?

i pick songs based on how good they are and where i feel i am going in the set.

i wouldnt care if i spun 2 of the same artists back to back, as long as they flow.

I always try to use different artists and different records (never using the b-side of a record played before). But on a very long mix, it is really hard not to do it...

what he said, a lot of artists have so many different aliases anyway, you might even mix three or four tracks that are essentially by the same person.

And no, it doesn't matter IMO

I don't see why it would matter all that much. Of course, I wouldn't get too carried away with it, but as long as you have some variety I don't see a problem with it.

What this guy said, who cares about the artist, if your playing new records, alot of people won't even know the name of the artist of the track thats playing, so who cares, I just go with the flow.

I've never worried about using multiple tracks by the same artists. If it's good and it flows well, there's no reason not to do so. On a similar note, in the past I was a little sceptical about using the same artist's tracks back-to-back, but not anymore. If you're trying to maintain a certain type of sound or mood, sometimes that's the best way. And half of the time, two or more tracks by the same artist aren't really even similar enough for most folks (without a tracklisting) to know it anyway. So, again--if it's good and it flows well, go for it.

basicly the more you think about things like this the less you are thinking bout the more important aspects of dj'ing. all that matters is
1.right song at the right time regardless of what genere or who did it. if its the right time for this song then nothing can ever change that.
2.mixing the songs efectivly using whatever method would be good for the songs style

i'd even throw in the b-side if it flowed. look what holden did with Nathan Fake's "Outhouse", first mixing the fluffy mix, then mixing the original into it. (all this on Balance005 CD1)

it went down great IMO, give it a listen if you havent. it seems to be quite interesting what you can do with records. look at James Zabiela (sure, he is an abortion of natural ability, but still) he plays snippets of tracks over and over, sometimes will mash up two tracks at once, and then play one of them solo.

sometimes i do it.. simply because the same artist would probably have similar sounding basslines and instruments.. just helps make things sound right.

hmm .. what is wrong with that .. i sometimes do 2 songs after each other from the same artist .. it's what dukes sad .. it is based on which way you heading ... also .. some records have complete other songs on there B side then the A side
