Gyah! Gyah GYAH GYAH!

Okay, for a laptop, he probably means multimedia speakers, RIGHT?

Okay, only have one sound out, right? Like, just headphone out, right?

So you want 2.1.

Okay.

Gonna be using them for studio monitoring, or just for throw around? like, pack them up, move your laptop, unpack them when you've got them?

Because most good multimedia speakers a.) need their own power supply, and b.) have a little subwoofer, even though it isn't really a subwoofer, more of an inferior bass module.

ANYWAYS, you want exaggerated bass, or quality sound?

Any size considerations?

And, if you are using them as studio monitors, there's really one set of multimedia speakers to get; they happen to be 2.1, and they also happen to be the best computer speakers on the market. Did I mention they were some of hte most expensive? I think they are $900, but they are professional quality speakers.

They're the Videologic Sirocco Pro's.

However, if you are going to be using speakers for more mundane things, check out stuff by Boston Acoustics, Polk, and Monsoon.

That is, if you want quality (read: not BIG BOOMY BASS HUGE WATTAGE NO CLARITY stuff, like CV's. If you want that with computer speakers, get the Klipsch 2.1's.

THX Speakers?

Wouldn't those just be the Klipsch 2.1 speakers, though? Those are the only THX speakers (and this is very-lax-crappy-multimedia-thx) that I would consider using for a laptop....

And the ones I suggested are better...and more portable.

What type of THX certification are you talking about? And why would you buy something that's THX-certified? It's just a set of (relatively lame) tests; I know it doesn't really mean quality THAT much, cause the biggest movie theater in town, in their biggest, best, THX-certified theater, I distinctly remember the subwoofers bottoming out in Final Fantasy...

THX isn't a brand; it is a basic set of scientific quality measurements (I don't like those; quality is too subjective). If it was a brand, it was something ripping off other people's misconceptions of brand vs. rating.

In other words, if it's passing itself off as "THX Brand", as there IS no "THX Brand", than it is intentionally TRYING to mislead you.

Any company that does that does *not* deserve MY dollers, let me tell you that!!

Same things with companies that put Watts in PMPO on their speakers.

*shudders*
