a question about virus and JP8000 factory presets

there is a typical trance sound used in a lot of songs where a filter seems to come off the lead or the pad as it progresses through the notes. Is that done all on the synth or are external effects added? What I mean is, if you held down C on your keyboard would the filter rise up creating that sound by itself or would you have to turn the knob yourself? I have heard various mp3s on both the virus (c) and the jp8000 that both come from presets and both do this. Any help?

Filter cutoff... the fader control under the filter section, it says Cutoff, once its at 0 (assuming LPF is on) then it will filter all highs and allow only low through, as you raise the fader it allows more and more until its completely unfilter. It gives it the buildup that typical trance tracks use.

EDIT: they usually automate it, when u have ur midi setup to your pc u can automate the filter by drawing on a graph for instance. Its extremely useful for doing automation where u physically cannot move the fader that fast.

The filter envelope is what you should be looking at to make the frequency shift as the key is pressed. The attack especially will bring in the filter over time.

Yeah, adjust the attack of the filter envelopes, increasing it will make the filter slowly rise to create swells and the like.
