Exclamation GTR, Union Productions and the show this Sat. Apr. 17 th.. (feedback)

To clarify, let's make this not so much a thread about who's going to the show, or questions about the show, since there's another thread for that specifically.. but rather discussion on what's being put into motion with this.

This could potentially start a new direction for Vancouver's trance scene. Why do I say that? A few reasons. At the helm of Union productions is Montana & Res.. and anyone who knows them knows they are flat out trance junkies. Of anyone else I have caught spinning trance in B.C. these boys seem more on track with fresh new tracks and quality trance than anyone else I have come across or spun with. The flipside to that coin is they know top notch trance from cheesy garbage trance.. and seem to keep things fairly tidy in that repect.

I had a chat with Marty (montana) last night to get an idea on where they want to go with things and what they are hoping to achieve out of this and want you guys to know what's up with them.

Their intentions are very solid. They want to bring quality trance acts in and produce sick shows and keep it to a $20 price tag.. all the while maintaining a show that's meant to retain a crowd with a solid vibe rather than a marketing venture. This is a huge difference. You aren't likely to see frilly ticket marketing (like $15 early bird, $20 up til __, $25 week of, $_ at door)... but rather just $20 straight across and $25 at door.

This Saturday's show has 14 DJs (one international) spanning across 2 clubs side by side (The Cave and Yuk Yuk's) plus a sweet lightshow I'm told. Seeing someone pull this together for $20 is VERY solid, and something that we will see continue to happen if the support is there. I wrote off the trance scene here a while ago, stopping playing within the city alltogether to focus strictly on out of town bookings. So to see an opening for things to get a bit of an overhaul and head in a quality direction away from the bad vibes and fairly uneducated/incoherent crowds at plaza of nations mass marketed cookie cutter parties.. is something I would definetely like to see. The Plaza ending could be just what's needed to refine what trance really is in this city, and to make trance not so much of a tainted word for so many.

I think it's going to take a miracle to pull this all off.. but if there was a time for it to happen it could likely be now. I know a hell of a lot of people have plenty to slag about Azim and his parties and Djing, but Azim has always been a businessman. I totally support what Marty and Adam are setting out to do with Union because they are and will always be DJs and complete trance heads first, and everything else coming second. If we are going to have anything much of a real solid trance scene here to speak of, we all have to start taking some ownership in it.

If you are stoked on what's happening with this and the idea and direction behind it, then get every single fucking trance head you know out to the show and let's support and build us a REAL trance scene! If this show goes off I guarantee they'll keep going for bigger trance acts as long as they aren't worried about losing money. As far as making money goes, it's about the furthest thing on their table. More people coming will just mean more money thrown into even bigger acts. I want to also talk to the boys about getting feedback from the TA community as far as what international acts are available and who should be booked locally as well.. including any other feedback. These are guys that will listen, and with input from the trance community we could all end up with something much better and tighter of a trance scene. No disrespect to Twisted, but out of curiousity have any of you ever felt any sort of ownership at a Twisted party? Felt stoked in supporting it and handing over your money? Felt the party was built to cater to what you personally wanted? I give Azim props for bringing SOME of the acts especially Armin in the last while, but there's gotta be a better setting to do it in rather than the usual feedback afterwards of "some great music, but vibe/party sucked".

Anyways, that's the end of my rant for now.. I sat and typed this all out when I have other stuff I am very much behind on, because I want you guys to know what's up and get off your asses and get this Trance scene THRIVING! Take some ownership!! Recruit new tranceheads and get everyone out!! Look at Viva for instance, although being a bit outta the way and a primarily asian club, any TA that walks through the doors there doesn't pay a cent of cover, and it's run by a TA as well. I admit I never make it out there to play or party there anymore due to my schedule and also it being in richmond, but that kind of people-for-the-people idealism is something we've gotta give respect and support to.

cheers!

-T

Trance is definately evolving...I wish there would be more progressive trance/house being played @ the clubs, like really deep and progressive something by the people like: Özgür Can, Infusion, Luke Chable, James Holden, Markus Schulz. Name a local DJ that plays that stuff huh...
