Annoying Toolbar

I have this really annoying toolbar that keeps popping up on my IE explorer and I'm wondering how the hell can I get rid of it. No, i don't want to switch to a new web browser cuz i am simply too lazy and I don't use the web much other than tranceaddict or some other sites to check e-mail/weather/news/etc...

Basically, I think the problem went back to a while ago, I got a msg using messenger plus saying that my old version needs to be updated, etc... So i click on the update button. Lo and behold, it has installed a bunch of shit on my computer, most of which i removed using adaware 6.0... Now the only thing left is this annoying toolbar on my Internet Explorer... I can remove it but it keeps coming back and it does really annoying shit like if there is a word "mp3" or "car" on the websites, it highlights them and makes them into a hotlink to their own stupid shit spam sites... Also, I've been getting popups randomly now and I've never gotten random popups

I can remove it temporarily by deselecting it but it keeps coming back.. How would I remove this??

It's pissing the hell out of me... I still want to use internet explorer, and no i don't feel like switching and whatnot... please help me...

I know you're lazy, but you've apparently already put more time into this than you would have if you just switch to Mozilla. So just go d/l it, and never have to think about this again.

My sources tell me that this may be fixed by a virus/trojan scan rather than something like Ad-Aware.

Try running your scan software with all the options on, or go do the free scan at www.bitdefender.com

Mozilla > IE

I'm having this same problem - I reinstalled MSN plus, and got that same tool bar, and the popups. Did a scan i think I got rid of the tool bar, but I am still getting the pop ups. Any ideas on how to get what's giving me the pop ups off my computer?

Thanks

mmmh, funny you mention that, it's supposed to be spyware itself:
quote:
Google's toolbar is spyware: With the advanced features enabled, Google's free toolbar for Explorer phones home with every page you surf, and yes, it reads your cookie too. Their privacy policy confesses this, but that's only because Alexa lost a class-action lawsuit when their toolbar did the same thing, and their privacy policy failed to explain this. Worse yet, Google's toolbar updates to new versions quietly, and without asking. This means that if you have the toolbar installed, Google essentially has complete access to your hard disk every time you connect to Google (which is many times a day). Most software vendors, and even Microsoft, ask if you'd like an updated version. But not Google. Any software that updates automatically presents a massive security risk.

from namebase.org

if you want to block popups, slimbrowser or PopUpKiller or something like that might me safer.
