How do u Combine Progressive + tech House + Trance at your Sets??

Hi, in My Country the Word Trance its real uknown, well they know Dj Dammy or some tiesto tunes, but at club Mainly what it sounds are Tech House, Tribal House, Funky House, Progressive.. I Use to combine some tech house like Dj Remy, and progressive at the begining, and then go to trance, tech trance and techno.. however i always spin Shrot Sets, like 3 hours Max... this time Ill play like 5 - 6 Hours, I still want to combine those generes between each others, But i dont know if its a good idea.. by Example.. Im Playing a trance track.. and then.. back to a tech house, progressive track like dj remy or Roland K... How do u combine those generes??.. if u do so... let me know the good or bad ideas in this,,

thanks in advance

I strongly disagree with mixing genres. Once a listener begins to get into your set, you change the style completely and loose thier interest. Also, have fun fitting the tracks together !! It just won't sound right...

A good DJ can blend different genres as long as the genres aren't too different. Trance can be mixed with progressive/house and vice versa...it's tougher to do but it can be done. For example it's good to start your set off with some proggy trance and then slowly build up to harder more uplifting trance.

agreed, that is one thing I am working on now. I play both trance and some house, you just toss in the next track that fits the moood you wanna give off.

it can go terribly wrong if done incorrectly...as I can attest to. but give it a shot, it can sound amazing.

Yes, Indeed u are right, I also think the same.. Actually I dont like to do this.. Most of the time I play Out I spin just Trance or I could combine some Progressive Trance tunes too.. just the ones that goes well.. i think Prog and Uplifting trance goes well, teh thing its that this time I wont have a warm up dj.. do u always have warm up djs??.. i cant imagine me Playing trance at 12 am... maybe i should Request a warm up dj

thanks

Tremor - Meia Lua
Primer - Indulge..

and then just trance.. it was a good transition

Good thing you're not a DJ.

I think it's the exact opposite. All the best sets I've ever heard combine a number of genres, as do all the best DJs. Look at Adam Freeland's 2003 Essential mix, he plays Nu-Skool Breaks, Electro Breaks, Funky Breaks, Hip-hop, a Rage Against The Machine song... and it's a flawless set. The more genres you use, the more interesting the set is. As you keep playing different stuff, they never know what's next. More genres mean more variety, and the more variety, the less of a chance there is that the listener will get bored. It's true that if done badly it can suck, but done well it makes for a much better set than it would be if you were a wuss and stuck to one genre. Trance is easy to mix anyway.

as long as the set flows and sounds good, it doesnt matter what "genre" the songs are. if it sounds good, go for it.
