Audiophile - sitting useless

Well, I've been producing out of my motherboard's onboard sound and $50 gaming speakers. Obviously this sucks.

So i bought an audiophile. Too bad it doesn't do me any good.

I don't use midi. I can actually write melodies better and faster with just the mouse, since it never messes up and you never have to record or anything.

I don't have any hardware synths, those can come once i have a good soundcard and speakers.

And best, the audiophile has no headphone/normal speakers port. So my speakers are sitting still in the normal motherboard speaker port.

Now, i want to use my audiophile. But my birthday just passed (That's what i got the audiophile for). And I only have about $180, with monitors being like 300.

I heard that the adaptor to a headphone port is expensive.

Any ideas what to do? Buy cheap monitors now to start using the audiophile? Save up for normally priced monitors? Get an adaptor? anything else?

well.. before I had my Events (monitors) I spliced an RCA cable to the ends of my speakers which did the job nicely.. it's not too hard to do this.. just find an RCA cable, cut it in half and cut the 1/8" plug off of your present speakers and do some wire splicing.. takes 10 mins...

You have a qualtiy soundcard now and I'd save for some decent speakers too.
What plugs do you have on your speakers? If it's RCA you just need to buy another cable.
You could buy some computerspeakers with rca input and a headphone jack.

Big Ears Audiophile addict.

Maybe I missed the question, but for about $60 or $70 you can buy a Behringer UB Series mixer and plug headset, monitor speakers and synths into that and THEN into your new audiophile...thats what I do and it works awesome!

What software are you using? You should at least start using the Audiophile's drivers - you're guaranteed to get better latency with them than with your onboard sound drivers. And hardware synths will come once you've got a good soundcard? Well, you've got one already in the Audiophile. Hook the midi connections up to a hardware synth (you can still write all your parts with the mouse if that's what you prefer) and trigger it from your software sequencer. Do lots of research before you buy anything though so you can make an educated decision. You can be dropping a lot of money on this stuff and you don't want to just take the word of someone on a message board who may have an entirely different set of needs and preferences from you. http://www.futureproducers.com is a good place to start.

man I cringe when I see replies like all thoes ones. I dont think any of you have answered his question.

except for maybe alanzo who suggests splicing the cable.

well you can forget that idea too. For about 5 bucks go to radio shack and grab a 1/4" jack (FEMALE) to RCA jack (MALE)

you will want to connect the adapter into the OUTPUT of your sound card, and your lame speakers into the adapter - PRESTO!

anyway I aint no expert, but that was way too obvious.

now dont say the audiophile doesnt have normal output because RCA is far superiour to 1/4" plug on your soundblaster or walkman speakers.

Secondly, the audiophile is a kick ass sound card for beginners. I just bought one recently.
---

now for my quieston - WHY DOES THE AUDIOPHILE 2496 SEEM SO DAMN QUIET?

and also , whats with the volume controler not being responsive? is there other drivers I gotta install?

Is it safe to say that there is no built in amp in the audiophile unlike most generic sound cards that come with a computer?

is that it??? is it that most sound cards have an amp built in but but the audiophile 2496 does not?
