Personally I definetly rate DJ's on their ability to make GOOD store bought CD's in addition to rating them based on their live skills. I feel that it is as important for a DJ to pull off a CD mix as much as it is for them to pull off something live. George Acosta took a bold step in attempting to take 24 of the most classic and treasured trance tracks and mix them together in a 2 CD set. What he ended up with was a very uninspiring mix of great songs...

The first CD starts off with a decent start...not the BEST mix of "Anomaly_Calling Your Name", but it does alright, then "Xpander" comes forward and gets the emotion really set, as expected. But then after that everything seems to go WAY down hill. With each transition to the songs afterwords you have no emotional transition, just beats overlapped very nicely and then this long bland and beat heavy non-melodic transitions which kill the emotion and epic-ness of the mix. The transition from "Lustral" to "Greece 2000" is so damn boring that I wanted to kill myself...the mood is completely killed because your waiting for something to happen. After this first CD ended I felt like some of my favorite trance tracks were totally disrespected by being thrown into a totally uninspired and non-epic mix.

Now, I didn't have much hope for my purchase, but I decided to keep my head held high as I popped in the second CD. "Children" starts of the mix very nicely and the transition into "Trazy State of Mind" is perfectly good, nice emotion and transfer of energy. The next transition into "7 Days and One Week" goes over well too. Perhaps Acosta grew a brain? Transition after transition occurs with pretty decent emotional crossfades...at least 100% better than the first CD. This CD KINDA brings some respect back to Acosta for me, but this CD still doesn't "do" what it should have done it if someone truly talented was behind the making of this mix. I do have something good to say...George Acosta's remix of "Just Another Day" was actually a pretty pleasant surprise, except for the fact that is simply just ends outta nowhere.

Overall, this mix looks like a GREAT idea but it's pulled off in purely bad taste. The first CD is totally unispired and he actually found a way to strip these monumental songs of thier epic integrity. The second CD is a bit more pleasing, but nothing amazing to gawk over. Plain adn simply...don't go buy this mix. These tracks are much better listened to on their own. If your looking for a continuous mix of some good classics, go for it, but if you want a mix of classics that actually combine and compliment the epic-ness and beauty of each other then stay clear of this.

maybe you havnt realised, but:

a) compilation cd's are not sets ,they ar a colection of tracks to be listened to at home, cd compilations never flow. you are getting it confused with a mix cd.

b) the tracks are classics, what u expect, same reason as above.

c) anyone who judges a dj on the quality of a cd with his name is a bit of a daft twat. compilation cd's are almost always mixed on computer, usualy using tunes that were the cheapest liscence/on the same label as cd.



however i would hardly call a cd full of tracks from 98/99 the "history" of trance

Um last time I check this CD is a MIX CD...gee the tracks are MIXED together...compilations usually mean that it is a CD with tracks on it for collection purposes, like the "Now Thats What I Call Music" comilations...This is as much of a mix CD as anything else out there.

DJ's have to be intelligent...off stage or on stage. One of the MAJOR parts of being a DJ is FORMATING or PROGRAMMING songs in a good order so that the whole mix sounds like one long song. This CD lacks majorly in the area of GOOD programming. DJ's SHOULD be judged by their CD releases AND their live performances. Just as Rock musicians should be judged on their recorded albums and their live performances...there's no difference.

This mix sux...plain and simple. I'm not saying George Acosta sux, but this mix sux. And btw why call someone names because they have a somewhat intelligent opinion on something...you my friend are a "daft twat"

rock people do live performances and make songs, got not one iota to do with mixing sets. this shows you have no idea what you are talkign about.


haha get you, dont try and get all high and mighty. a mix cd is a recorded live mix, never usually released usually just given, like a promotional material, mr. this is a mix compilation, miced by a computer and a bunch of tracks which were easiest to get the liscence for, this is not a set, and this cd does not reflect in any way on the DJ. do you even go out clubbing?

I'm pretty sure this was something that Ultra Records wanted to do since they seem to put out compilations just about every month it seems. I guess they got Acosta to do it because he is probably their most "high profile" DJ on their roster, obviously they don't have many to begin with.

I don't have the CD so I can't say if this is in fact mixed by Acosta or if it's mixed by computer. I do have Acosta's Touched CD and that is mixed live on turntables according to the liner notes. Someone who has History of Trance 1993-2004 should check the notes to see if it says anything about it being actually mixed by Acosta himself.

I picked up the CD and that track sucks ass. I'll check to see if it mentions whether he actually mixed it or not.
