cd players pitch precision question

i have a regular single (you can say cheap) cd deck.
It has the ability to go +/- 8%, 12%, and 16% percent just like many other decks.
my question is, if you go to 8% does your pitch precision increase to say .05 (because it is not shown on the display). IF the precision is not increased, then what is the point of having +/- 8%, 12%, 16%

Which decks do you have? So your pitch increments are not shown at all no matter which pitch range you select? If the precision isn't increased as the range gets narrower, yeah there really is no point in narrowing the pitch range.

its a single american dj deck.......have had it for over a year and I am very happy with it.....the increment is always shown as 0.1 no matter if I use +/-8, 12, or 16

I don't think its pitch increment can change then... The only logical reason for having different pitch ranges would to change how sensitive the pitch fader will be.
