I create kind of Trancey stuff, quite smooth with rolling beats rather than in yer face aggression.
I use:
Logic Audio and Audiowerk8, Airbase 99 Drum Machine, Roland JV-1080, Roland JP-8080, Digitech Effects unit, mixer, master keyboard etc.
The JP-8080 is great for pads and basses, really smooth, but also gets quite dirty too!!!!!
I'm going to get Emagic's soft sampler soon and upgrade my machine.
You will soon be able to hear my tracks online, I'll publish details when it's up...

You're better off than me equipment wise... do you live in the Toronto area?

Yes, i actually listen a lot to hip-hop, also tried to create some beatz, but i wasn't happy with it....
I also create trance... i have just uploaded my two of my tunes to mp3.com.. if anyone interested you can find it at http://www.mp3.com/fatboy
Unfortulantely my best tune hasn't approved because mp3.com staff think that some of my sounds are sampled from a movie, so i have to prove they are mine first... i'm sure it will be arranged in some days, or maybe a week...

I found a real baddass program to try my hand at producing trance. Its ORION by sonic syndicate, and I've found that this program is unlimited. Coupled with soundforge, cubase, and acid pro, it is a goldmine for tranceaddicts like us. I am still in practice...I can't afford any hardware, but I think with the power of ORION, it will come soon. I am also a college student, broke as joke, but Orion is only $49!!! It has a Rebirth-like interface, but unlimited modules and effects.... a really great program for aspiring producers! (like me :])
I like to make melodic trance, with a little harder beat though. I tried some hiphop w/Fruityloops, but I wanted to try trance since that is my favorite! I have no completed tracks, it is really hard to get started when you are just learning about LFO, VST filters, phasers, etc.!!!
peace, tranceface
