An observation

Ever notice how everything in electronic music used to be called Techno?

Then everything was called house

and now everything is called trance..

Im not talking about those who know music but rather the people who arent into it much who are trying to describe the dance music genre.

WHy wouldn't it be called Electronica? It's electronic music, and thats the broadest term they can use to fit house, trance, techno, breaks, etc etc under.

I love how everytime a genre get's harder, or changes, a new "buzzword" emerges.

This past year and change, everything became TECH. Tech house, tech trance... pfffft.. just accept there are different levels of dirtyness in each genre.. no need to re-invent the wheel.

as a matter of fact, lol..

i was pumping some chris liebing last night as i went through the drive through @ mcdonalds.. nitzer ebb - murderous (phil kieran remix) was blaring, and the girl taking my money said "ohh, you love trance too huh?! kewwlllll" ......

i responded "yeah, it's a new danny d remix!! TITE HUH?!" and she said something about never hearing it but liking it, and gave me my change.

stupid me for thinking mcdonalds workers know the different genres. stupid stupid me..

Why does it bother you so much what names people use to describe the music? I've been in the scene for a pretty long time and mixing records for almost as long and I call everything techno (unless I'm talking about the music to someone who is just as musically inclined). Sure I can digress if I want to and start talking about the differences between the different genres (techno, funky house, soulful house, hard house, tech house, vocal house, progressive house, progressive trance, epic trance, euro, breakbeats, drum&bass (my personal fav), happy hardcore.....) and probably a dozen other forms of electronic music that haven't popped into my head yet.

Just because I like to call it techno, does it mean I'm wrong? The entire genre of music is open to alot of interpretation. What we call hard trance is typically called hard house in the UK; What we typically call house, is called funky house in the UK. Everybody interprets the music differently.
