if you can get into it would be a great part time job for all the reasons you mentioned and its easy. you're playing music for people for money. it may not be glamorous like club djing but it pays well and it beats working a grocery store or some other job like that.

from my experiences back in the day, it really sucks. It sounds like a great idea..but most of the time you have to provide sound and equipment. Loading everything up into a truck, hauling it over, unloading, setting up, playing for a few hours, then pack everything back up, load it and unload it again. Believe it gets old very fast!!! Let alone by the time you're done you are not going to want to do anything else. It's a lot more stressful and a lot of hard work. But by all means if you feel that you're up to it do it. I'm just going to tell you now it's going to suck!

But most of the parties people book you for, they're going to want hip hop and R&B. Rarely did I ever find a party that I can play trance for more than 30 mins before I had some people asking me for some rap.

You can practice your skills though by doing things like beatmatching effectively etc etc. you can practice doing things you might wanna do in your trance mixes plus you can charge a pretty penny and get some good gear in the process if all the mobile djing leaves you with is some nice equipment and a good set of core skills and confidence then in my opinion it is very worth it. I'm working on setting up a mobile djing business right now and the hardest part is finding clients.

back in the day, i used to help this guy out with his mobile dj business... he had to turn people away because he was so busy. i think the hardest part is getting a repuation built up. you get alot of business from referals. do a good job and more clients will come.
