What do you think??
Here are some comments someone made about techno/trance. Tell me what you think.
| quote: | I hate to be the elitist music bitch, but please stop speaking about trance in reverent tones. Trance fucking sucks, and is best left to DJs getting paid ludicrous amounts of money for absolutly no skills. The good trance tracks have all been made in the mid-90s (Juno Reactor, Nuclear Ramjet, etc.), and the "new wave" is pushed by compilations, sucky labels and marketing.
The best electronic "dance" music, IMHO, would be french house, à la Etienne de Crecy, Demon, Stardust, Cassius, DJ Oizo, and some Daft Punk (Mostly Revolution 909/Phoenix). Ain't nothing funkier on earth.
As for "easy listening", we call that Downtempo. DJ Toa Tei, Tosca, K&D, Dzhaimen & Kaimien, The Gentle People, Freight Elevator Quartet, Fantastic Plastic Machine, etc. Check those out. |
| quote: | If you limit yourself to whatever trance compilation vol. X is out there, and that somehow defines the whole of techno music for you, then I really can't say anything that'll change your mind. Also, if you listen to early trance, and what's getting pushed today, I doubt you'd use the word "evolution".
A real, reall gross and unfair comparison would be that trance is the teen pop of the electronic music world. Far from the truth, but you get the gist of it. Drop by the 313 mailing list, and post something like "trance is king! The rest is trash!", and you'll get firebombed.
Rasta is right. Most people equate techno with trance. Ask any person on the street what techno music is, and the first words that'll pop into his or her mouth would be "raves?". It's like any style of music.
Just don't limit yourself to that. |
